Batch convert image file exif data to IPTC

Post by chrisga »

I have hundreds of photographs which have keywords and tags input in windows 8 file explorer. Please can you tell me if XnViewMP is the correct tool to use to ocnvert these keywords and tags to the IPTC format.

I have been playing around with the batch converter but when I add an action, and go to populate the IPTC keyword box using "insert from" I am not able to select XPkeyword or XPTitle (which is what the data shows up as in the exif box on the bottom left of the main screen before going to batch convert.

It seems like i should be able to do it, but must be missing something simple.

Thanks in advance.

Apologies, do you mean XP Keyword and XPTitle are missing in XnViewMP batch convert or I am missing them in some way? The image detail box, bottom left of the main screen shows the file with the Exif fields XPKeyword and XPTitle fields filled in.

If they are missing from the batch converter, would you be able to add them as fields to allow batch convert of exif data to IPTC format please?

Thank you for your help.

Pierre,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated.

I downloaded XnView and the converter from Exif/XMP to IPTC on that program seems to work. However, for each photo, in windows I added a string of tags separated by commas e.g. "big, red, bus, little, yellow, submarine" and when I convert to IPTC using the "build IPTC from XMP" command XnView doesn't copy all of the tags over. It seems to stick at 64 characters. Is there a limit? Can the limit be removed at all?

If not does anyone know of any easy to use software to convert XMP to IPTC with no character limit? I've tried adobe photoshop elements but just cannot get on with it.

Thanks,

Chris
