how to re-create the thumbnail stored in the exif data

Post by xelag » Sat Dec 27, 2014 10:23 am

Hi,

I would like to now if it's possible with XnView MP under Linux to re-create the thumbnail stored in the exif data of a JPG file ?
As you can see in the screenshot below, XNView is showing the thumbnail stored in the exif data but it's not what the picture looks like.

I tried using the menu "View/REbuild thumbnail" but it does not do the trick.

thanks

Refresh thumbnails saved in XnViewMP's cache:
  • View » Rebuild thumbnails
Recreate thumbnails embedded in JPEG images:
  • Tools » Metadata » EXIF thumbnail - Rebuild

BTW, the rebuild operates on only those jpgs that have been selected, I find.

Tagging/ticking them doesn't lead to rebuilding thumbnails - the 'EXIF thumbnail - Rebuild' under Tools, Metadata remains greyed-out.

Note also that 'EXIF thumbnail - Rebuild' will be greyed-out when any non-jpg files are selected. Make sure you select only those files with EXIF data in them, most likely, jpgs.

NB All of this takes place in Browser mode.
Willing donor, if only a donor token were supplied in return, putting 'Phred's XnView' or 'Donor Version' in the title bar. (See Wiztree for partial solution.)
And a local Help file :(
