Halo, forum members.
XnviewMP 0.72 and 0.75beta on Windows7 32bit.
I frequently forget to save images after editing them. However, I do not like auto-save feature.
Could you try the following "scenarios" and see if you experience the same issues?
I think these 2 option-items are related to the issues (I could be wrong, though).
Menu > Settings > General > File Operations > "Confirm to save changes to file" is checked/selected.
Menu > Settings > View > Misc. > "Keep current image" is checked/selected.
----------
Scenario 1: (No Problem)
In View-Mode, I edit an image (e.g. crop).
I go to the next image and the pop-up "Save Changed File" confirmation appears which is correct.
----------
Scenario 2a: (Problem: "Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
In View-Mode, I edit an image (e.g. crop).
I go to Browse-Mode.
("Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
I double-click another image and View-Mode opens displaying that second image.
I edit the second image.
After editing the second image, I go to the next/previous images.
("Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
Scenario 2b: (Problem: xnview displays un-changed image; not the edited one)
I try to close xnviewmp and the "Save Changed File" confirmation appears.
(If I click "Yes" or "No" , the confirmation appears for the 2 images I have edited which is correct.)
Because I have seen many images since the last time I did the editing, I forget what I did to that image. So, I go to the first image. However, xnviewmp displays that image as if it had not been edited. Actually, it was and if I click "Yes" in the "Save Changed File" confirmation dialog, the changes are save.
I do not know why xnviewmp displays the original image instead of the edited one.
----------
Do you see the Scenario 2a and 2b happen?
Yes, the main issue is that my stupid brain keeps on forgetting to tell my finger to click the "Save" button.
Can xnviewmp help me by popping-up the "Save Changed File" confirmation if go to the Browse-Mode without saving an edited image?
Then, the issue in scenario 2b does not even bother me.
Thank you for reading this long message and trying the scenarios.

Strange, are you able to reproduce it?Scenario 2b: (Problem: xnview displays un-changed image; not the edited one)

Re: "Save Changed File" confirmation before going to Browse-
Pierre, I am sorry. The "Scenario 2a" should be as the following:
(I underlined the part I did not include)
Scenario 2a: (Problem: "Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
In View-Mode, I edit an image (e.g. crop).
I go to Browse-Mode.
("Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
I double-click another image and View-Mode opens displaying that second image.
I edit the second image.
After editing the second image, I go to Browse-Mode.
("Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
I double-click the third image.
I go to the next/previous images.
("Save Changed File" confirmation does not appear)
Please try the following:
- Put 3 images (named: image1, image2, image3) in a folder.
- In ViewMode, crop image1. Do not save it. Go to BrowseMode. (save confirmation does not appear)
- In BrowseMode, double-click image2. Crop it. Do not save it. Go to BrowseMode. (save confirmation does not appear)
- In BrowseMode, double-click image3. Now, in ViewMode, I can go to previous/next images and save confirmation does not appear. Also, the images displayed by ViewMode are the original images; not the edited ones. (**)
- Go to BrowseMode. Double-click image1. Now, ViewMode does display the edited image1. If I got to next/previous image, the save confirmation does appear.
(**) In BrowseMode, the thumbnails and previews are also of the original images; not the edited ones.
Did you see the same behaviour of xnviewmp?
I have tried the features Crop, Rotate, Resize and xnviewmp shows the issue above.
You can imagine how confused I am if there are hundreds of images in a folder.
Is it possible to always have the save confirmation after I edit an image in ViewMode (but forget to save) and I go to BrowseMode?
Thanks.

Re: "Save Changed File" confirmation before going to Browse-
how do you go to browser mode? If you click on the tab browser, no save confirmation will be askedDo not save it. Go to BrowseMode. (save confirmation does not appear)
Pierre.
Re: "Save Changed File" confirmation before going to Browse-
The ViewMode of Xnviewmp on my laptop is not full-screen; has no tab; always has the tool bar.
To switch from ViewMode to BrowseMode, I click the "Browse" button on the tool bar.
The BrowseMode has the folder pane, thumbnail pane, and preview pane (from left to right).
To switch from BrowseMode to ViewMode, I double click the thumbnail of an image.
Since you mentioned the "tab" browser, now I can see that some users may edit an image in a ViewMode tab, but do not want to save it immediately and they, instead, use the browse tab and/or another view tab.
If the tabs are used, I can see that actually what I did was switching between tabs. I can understand why xnviewmp does not pop-up the save confirmation.
However, for users who do not use tab, xnviewmp behaviour can be confusing. I kept on asking myself "Why xnviewmp does not warn me when I leave an edited image without saving?"
Pierre, is it technically possible to have an option so that if there is an edited image in ViewMode (no tab and/or multiple tabs) and we switch to another tab (view tab and/or browse tab) then the save confirmation will appear?
In other words, perhaps, switching to any other tabs without saving an edited image in current tab will trigger the save confirmation.
Again, it should be an *option* and not by default.
Thanks.

Halo, other users of xnviewmp.
Am I the only person who do not use "tab" on xnviewmp ?
If you do not use "tab", do you see the issue I report in this thread ?
Thanks

ok, i understand, but the view is always opened, so if you don't close it, you'll have the confirmation dialog
Pierre.
