Blurred thumbnails - where is sharpening?

Noticed that large thumbnails are blurred, vainly tried to find settings that will sharpen the thumbnails.
Q: where can I find it?
Meanwhile, I went into Settings->Browser->Catalog->db settings
Noticed a LOT, I mean a LOT of folders in the 'cached directory'.
[Delete All] button (at the bottom) didn't work. I could delete some cached folders of non-existing paths (paths to disconnected external USB drives)
There are sooo many folders still left under 'Cached Directory' - I would not know whether or not they all exist.
Anyway I clicked on 'Rebuild thumbnails' and it will take (quite) a while to do so.
Not sure whether that is the solution though.
attachment shows a preview by Directory Opus (left) and XnViewMP latest version, right.

A
Compression setting that results in sharper thumbnails:
Lossless (ZIP) or a higher quality
Lossy option ??

And you clicked on
Rebuild thumbnails ?
Ah, you asked originally about sharpening, and I see that in XnView MP that option can be found in
Tools > Options > Browser > Thumbnails -- Misc tab

Yes, I clicked rebuild.
As for sharpen, that has been 'set'

Yes, regretfully so. I can submit another examples, but they are 'big' and I am not sure Pierre agrees to that.

Does selecting Sharpening have a visible effect, could it be that it isn't operaring correctly?

Is the problem possibly confined to large images, which might require a different sharpening setting??
The current forum upload limit is 2MiB, but you could upload larger files to a file hosting service and provide a link, or if necessary send an example to Pierre as an email attachment at the xnview contact address on the home page...

I had this example on imgur
it would be nice to have this displayed as thumbnail and ONLY once a user clicks on it, it will be displayed full screen.
Left Directory Opus, right XnViewMP

That aside, I again started 'rebuild thumbnails' and I noticed that some thumbnails are sharp now.
Rebuilding takes quite some time and it is rebuilding thumbnails (at least it looks that way) of a lot of folders, outside the 'Base path of your pictures'
(settings-browser-catalog)
I mean: I have X:\JPG there (example)
in cached directory it showes e.g. X:\Photos D:\Downloads C:\Users etc.
