Newbie Question: Can I select which folder XnViewMP looks at

Post by smksvt »

Hi,

I'm new to XnView and am playing with it on my personal laptop. I've been searching for a tool that excels at tagging/categorizing photos for a small nonprofit where I volunteer and manage their photo library. XnViewMP is the best I've seen so far and I'm really excited about it. Ultimately, I'd like to have staff members use it to access photo files on a server, but only include certain folders that are on that server. For example, if this is the way the drive is organized:

Company Drive (C:)
Company Drive (C:) > Alex
Company Drive (C:) > Bob
Company Drive (C:) > Bob > 2018 Photos
Company Drive (C:) > Christian
Company Drive (C:) > Shared photos

I want it to bring in only files from Company Drive (C:) > Shared photos, not Company Drive (C:) > Bob > 2018 Photos.

How is this done?
Thanks!

no directly, XnView MP is folder based, but perhaps you can use categories to create your own folder tree

Dear smksvt
I am using the favorites feature for this. Then it is easier to navigate (BTW: now my wife can use it, otherwise she would be confused :D )

* navigate to a folder you prefer (e.g. C:\Shared Photos)
* click on the star symbol above the thumbnail view, right of the path field
* give it a name (I prefer to use the default)
* repeat this with the folders you like (I added also paths to my SD-Card reader)

Now you can switch to "Favorites" in the folder tree view.
Using XnView MP 0,89
Best regards,
Thomas
