Faulting module, libeay32.dll when starting MP

Post by parrottm »

Hi,
I just purchased a new system with Windows 10 Home installed. I always install XnView MP, so I made that one of the first things I did on this new machine. Although the installation seemed to go fine, XnView MP will not start. When looking at the Windows Event Viewer, I see an error saying XnView MP failed to start because of a faulting module, libeay32.dll. I have tried the installer and portable version with the same result. Any ideas?

strange, libeay32.dll is not needed to start. could you try to delete the xnview.ini?

OK, deleting the xnview.ini file makes the startup wizard run again, but after doing so, MP crashes as before. I did do a thorough search and cleaning of the registry for everything referring to my initial install of MP. After that, I rebooted and made sure the ini file was gone. I have removed the ini file any number of times, but the same thing happens thereafter; a crash.

Can you think of anything else I can try?
Thank you.

could you try the 0.91? could you try to drag&drop an image file to XnView MP's icon? Do you have sent a crash report?

Hi. I just downloaded MP 0.91 and tried it. There is no difference on this machine. I also tried dragging an image file onto the shortcut as requested. This also results in the same crash as before.

I just discovered the bug template and have submitted a bug report.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit. I entered a bug report in the bug area of the MP forum.

No, I never see any sign of the gui, or a dialog of any kind. I start the app like any other from the Start menu, or by double-clicking on the shortcut, but the app never shows on screen. The only evidence something happened is an entry in the Windows Application event log with the crash message.

Incredible, that worked!

So, is that dll not needed at all, or is MP finding a different one somewhere on the system that allows it to work? I never thought about running a dll walker app to see what MP was picking up.

this dll is only needed for GPS map, it's strange that you have a crash.
Could you tell me if you have same problem with previous version (0.90)?

Yes, on this new machine with Windows 10 home, both .90 and .91 crashed in the same way.
