Metadata in sidecar only for selected filetypes?
Hi there.
I've tried different software in order to start organizing 1000s of photos, mostly jpgs, some raw-files, and much fewer video-files. I was happy to find, that XnView has an easy way to add keywords to embedded metadata - for jpgs. I'm aware that raw files and video files (mp4) don't allow embedding (right?).
I much prefer embedding, so not to depend on files to be moved and copied together (and so many files...), but I could live with sidecar files when there's no option to embed.
In the settings, I can choose to create the sidecar files instead of embedding, but it seems to be all or nothing.
Is there a way to make XnView write sidecar files for the raw and video files only?
Tips or any comments are much appreciated, thanks!
Best, Asser.

Re: Metadata in sidecar only for selected filetypes?
so you would like to use embedded metadata for format that support (JPEG, TIFF, PNG), and sidecar for others?
Pierre.

Re: Metadata in sidecar only for selected filetypes?
I wanted to add my vote for this.
I'm using XnView to sort and categorize photos, raw and jpeg. Then a few of the raw I take to CaptureOne to edit. If the sidecar is there, CaptureOne inherits all the categories, rating, etc. But if add sidecar is always on, it produces a lot files for the jpegs that serve no purpose.
BTW, I'm really impressed with the feature set. Every time I come to a point where i wish it had something, I dig a little and find that it does.
