[Solved] Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
Hello
I have installed XnView MP in Windows 7. Now I want go to Linux (Debian based). I want to transfer XnView to Linux.
I have some Bookmarks and Tags and Batchscripts in XnView. I would like to transfer my XnView profile from windows.
Is there a way I can do this?
Which folders and files do I have to transfer? And where do I have to put them in in Linux?
Would appreciate some answer. Thank you.

Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
you can copy files from settings folder (settings>Integration>Paths - open config location)
Pierre.
Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
Thank you. I found it.
I have copied the whole content of this windows folder into the linux folder (/home/user/.config/xnviewmp/).
Nevertheless my Categories filter do not work.
In windows I have pathes like
D:\FolderData\FolderProject
In Linux I have now the same path, but a little different:
/home/User/Folder/FolderData/FolderProject/
You can see: The difference between windows and linux path is, that in Linux instead of "D:\ " I have now "/home/User/Folder".
And also "\" is "/" in Linux. Edit: This is a wrong statement. It is "/" in windows and Linux, when we export/import the xml (see latest post).
Where are the Pathes of the categories filter saved? In which file? Is there a way to edit this path? Thank you.

Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
in this case you need (on linux) to use settings>Catalog - relocate
Pierre.
Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
Thank you. I found it.
Seems I have to relocate each folder separately. Really? Isn't there a faster method? Something like export and import a list of it?

Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
Right else if you know SQL you can use 'DB Browser for SQLite'
Pierre.
Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
If you don't use star rating and colours, you can perhaps export a xml file for keywords with "file's categories > export" function ( down arrow in the header of categories filter panel)
Then edit this file , search/replace with new pathnames, and import in the new installed xnviewmp ...
... and tell us if it's a good method ? ...
Another way is to create a whole new DB
( edit : only if keywords, stars, colors are embedded in photos or saved in xmp sidecar files)
-Enable the first option "Import" in settings, metadata
- Use "Settings, catalog, add folders" ( choose here the parent folder for all photos you want to be in catalog) and wait ... all photos will be read ...

Re: Transfer settings from Windows 7 to Linux
@IxenPDF (Crossposting)
OK. In
XnView Settings->Catalog->Catalog->Cached directory
There are a lot of folders. I do not know, what Cached directory folders are, and why they are there.
Is it enough simply to delete all his folder except the 60 folders for my categories Filter. Then change the path of this 60 folders for my cathegories Filter and all is working again? Or would I broke anything, if I delete all other folders in cached directory?
Actually it would be fine, simply to have a new profile in Linux, but only to add my old Category filters with the new changed path.
