Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
Hello.
I recently found that XnViewMP generated xmp files for nearly every file.
How can I prevent that?
In the settings I haven't found anything that causes it.
Thank you in advance.

I would suspect these settings:
There's alot which seems to export data into a XMP file

Re: Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
Thank you.
The scenario when XnViewMP generated all these XMP files was like this:
I noticed that MP showed the thumbnail of a file I had deleted long ago.
Double click on it did nothing.
So I wondered: Isn't it updated automatically?
So I searched for a command to do the update manually.
Nothing worked, until I tried
View / <the both update commands>.
Then MP worked hard and processed thousands of files
in the directories nearby (although strangely not all directorys).
And by that it generated many thousands xmp files!
I meanwhile tried what happens if I add a new directory
with some files in it.
Navigate with MP to it, and no xmp files are generated.
So I'm really confused now.
Why didn't MP removed the thumbnail of a non existing file?
(Obviously it does it now...)
In which case does MP scans "neighboured" directories?
What are these "update" entries in the view menu for?
Why have been generated xmp files then, and now they are not generated?

Only when you browse them (or add in settings>Catalog)
To update catalog & filesWhat are these "update" entries in the view menu for?
With your settings, .xmp is not generatedWhy have been generated xmp files then, and now they are not generated?

Re: Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
But they were scanned without browsing them,
when I did the view/ update.
So I was only dreaming about generation of thousands of xmp files?
Re: Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
what do you means?
.xmp was perhaps generating if you have used 'Update files from catalog'?

Re: Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
Do I get you right:
Despite my settings (see attachment above) xmp files are generated
when doing 'Update files from catalog'?
... and maybe (?) that was also the reason why the neighboured
directories have been scanned without having browsed to them?

Re: Newby question: Disable generating of XMP files
yes a known issue
No not for that... and maybe (?) that was also the reason why the neighboured
directories have been scanned without having browsed to them?
