Restricting folders categories imported from.

Post by mkc73 »

When the user browses through folders the categories (with setting 'Import XMP subject or IPTC keyword to Catalog's categories' set) the catelog is updated from the Metadata in the image files as the folders are opened. A folder and its subfolders can also be imported using 'Tools/Import and sort' which will also update the catelog.

When working on a specific project it is unhelpful to be presented with lots of categories not associated with the project. If I delete the database and restart, the category set is already populated with some values not associated with my project - even before browsing anywhere - presumably from some initial directory. Can I restrict the categories imported from files to a specific project directory and its subfolders ?

Catalog/'Excluded/Included' and Catalog/'Base path of your pictures' sound hopeful - can they be used to achieve this, even if I subsequently browse more widely than my current project ?

do you have tried 'Excluded/Included' to exclude all without your subfolder?

Hi Pierre

"do you have tried 'Excluded/Included' to exclude all without your subfolder?"

I was not sure how to use exclude/include ?
If I use Settings/Catelog/'Excluded/Included'/'Add Folder' I can select a folder to be excluded - presumably from populating the catelog with keywords.
There does not seem to be any way of specifying included folders?
Do I have to specifically exclude all other folders other than my project folder - there are quite a lot of them ? Are subfolders also excluded?

Apologies if this is well-documented elsewhere.

you can for example, exclude 'c:\folder' and include 'c:\folder\subfolder2'
so 'c:\folder2' & 'c:\folder\subfolder1' will be excluded

Ha

That's pretty much what I wanted - many thanks.

On my system, it was not completely obvious that you could toggle Excluded/Included for a selected folder.
