How to Batch Convert Images to a Specific Format Without Losing Quality?

Post by poltroon »

I’m new to XnView MP and I’m really impressed by its features so far! However, I have a quick question about batch converting images. I need to convert a large number of JPEG images to PNG format, but I’m worried about potential quality loss during the process.

Here’s what I’m trying to achieve:
  • Maintain the highest possible image quality during conversion.
  • Automatically resize images to a specific resolution (e.g., 1920x1080) during the same process.
  • Keep the metadata intact for all images.
I’ve been exploring the Batch Convert tool but feel a bit lost with all the options. Could someone guide me on the correct settings or workflow for this?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help! I’m excited to learn more about what XnView MP can do.
Every image has a story—let's make escape road shine together!

As PNG is a lossless format there shouldn't be any loss of quality.
Here’s what I’m trying to achieve:
  • Automatically resize images to a specific resolution (e.g., 1920x1080) during the same process.
The option for that has recently [and quite bizarrely in my view] been moved to the Add action> Transform heading.
  • Keep the metadata intact for all images.
There is an option for that on the Output tab.

XnConvert is (or at any rate was...) a beautiful application and operation should in most respects be reasonably apparent from a careful study of the tabs working from left-to-right. As freeware software, support is limited as unfortunately few users post in reply to questions.

Always test using copies of files!!

Edit: What I have written for the standalone software XnConvert should also apply to XnView MP Batch convert.
