Hi, I just noticed that Xnview MP (1.8.3 Linux 64bit) wrote my metadata like ratings and categories to the original (JPG) files, and also to the XMP files. This was not intended!
I want the original files to be untouched, but I cannot figure out how to configure this. Only the XMP files should be created/changed.
As an example, if I remember correctly, something like digiKam had such an explicit option.
want metadata ONLY written to XMP but how to configure?

For this in parameters:
- you have to validate the sidecar companion for the JPEG.
- and then in metadata unvalidate "Export the categories .."

in Settings>Sidecar, you need to check 'Create or update sidecar', and check supported formats
