EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
Currently the tab are hidden following what is present in the file.
Do you think that it will better if the tab are always visible, but without content?

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
It's a little better in this case:
- IPTC tab is selected.
- I select a photo, and another, and another etc . If one of them has no iptc data, I can (go on) (continue) searching in the same tab for a specific caption for instance.
It is not, in this case:
-IPTC tab selected.
I'm searching for photos where IPTC caption talks about places, and GPS data are missing. Just see the absence of the gps tab.
A choice in "View, Info pane" menu can be a solution ...

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
As I tried to describe in the second case:
Example
- I want the IPTC tab to stay visible to check if city, region or location metadata are missing.
I select the photos one by one. IPTC tab still displayed.
When the GPS tab disappears*, and iptc geographical info is unsufficient, I know that I must add informations.
I rarely use this , but it is you who asked the question.
I can also use search functions, but this requires precise settings.
* My camera adds GPS information, but I must wait sometimes for 3 minutes to get gps signal.
So 50% of "quick shot" images have GPS data missing.

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
Both have benefits and defects, but for me it's not very important
I think I prefer tabs always visible.
it allows to quickly scroll through many images , and the gui is more stable and clear

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
Hi.
I also vote for showing also empty tabs.
Reason:
When showing pics on fullscreen with tabs pinned and GPS tab selected, single pic without geotag causes focusing previous tab and it needs to be switched back to GPS tab manually on next pic. For me it would be more convenient to stay on the same tab no matter if it has data or not.

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
I also strongly vote for empty tabs, for precisely the same reason as pim. The GPS tab example was actually exactly what I was searching for when I found this topic.
I was cycling through photos from a road trip, trying to find when I reached a certain location. Most of the photos have geotags, but some do not. Because the GPS tab disappears whenever I pass a photo without a geotag, it shifts the focus to the next tab, "Exiftool." I there for have to repeatedly grab the mouse, switch back to the GPS tab, then return to the photos & keep scrolling. It'd be much, much less cumbersome to just be able to scroll continuously, with the focus remaining on the GPS tab, even for those few photos where there's no map to show.

Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 0.98.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
Pierre.
Re: EXIF/IPTC/ExifTool/GPS tabs question
I can't find a setting in the user interface ... is there a setting?
Edit xnview.ini
in [Preview] section, modify this line
showAlwaysTabs=true
It's working, empty tabs are shown.
Thank you
