Bug in XnView or am I just clueless?

Hi, I'm a recent convert to XnView from my last image viewer and I LOVE the "Decription" function. However, I keep encountering a couple bugs:
1. When I view the images in "Thumbnails & Details" view, enter a description and then "Refresh" (so I can see what I typed) XnView switches back to the image root folder. Everytime I have to "Show files in subfolders" to get back to the view I was at.
2. MORE IMPORTANT - When I try to "Create" > "File Listing", even though I check off that I want to include the "Description"...it doesn't include it. It also isn't including the other data I checked off like "Type."
Now am I just clueless and missong something? Do I need to set something special in "options"
I am running XnView 1.91.4 on Win XP SP2

Before to use refresh, you had 'show files in subfolders', right?

It works for me, you have only 'description'?

Yes, I used "Show all files in Subfolders" and then switch to the the "THumbnails & Details" view. If I try to refresh, it throws me back to the root folder of the images and I have to use "Show all files in Subfolders" to see the full listing of images again. Each time I refresh I have to keep going back to do this.
Once I write in some descriptions, and use "Create" > "File Listing" (with "Description" checked) it won't include the description. Even stranger, if I tell it to include all the information (I check off all the boxes, this is what i get:
back.gif -1 03-15-2005
backhover.gif -1 03-15-2005
close.gif -1 09-17-2003
close.gif -1 09-17-2003
Not only did it not give me all the information, but I determined that "-1" is representing the "file size"...huh? But the images are all actually 1012 bytes and it says this in the "properties" column in "THumbnails & Details" view
What is so strange is the first time i installed v1.91.4 a couple days ago everything was working fine. Then I did a reinstall and now both these functions stopped working correctly. So then i tried installling from scratch on my other machine and it didn't work correctly the very first time I installed. I'm not sure if it is a machine conflict or just something that I need to set differently

Is there anywhere in "Options" that could be controlling this?
Also, are there slightly older versions of XnView available so I can check if this is a version issue on my machine?
Thanks,
Jon[/img]

???? If you check filename, filesize & filedate, you have that???

				Hi Pierre,
I know it's strange...it's driving me crazy too

???? If you check filename, filesize & filedate, you have that???
Yes, i can check off
everything in the "Generate File Listing" dialog and I still only get this:
Code: Select all
Name Size Date Properties Type Description
back.gif -1 2005
backhover.gif -1 2005
Thanks for looking into this so quickly...I am uninstalling and reinstalling for the 5th time on my laptop after purging any
registry issues and cleaning out the XnView .
ini settings in my user folder. I am hoping it will eventually resolve itself...
If anyone can reproduce, please tell us.
Thanks

I spent a few hours last night and found out what is going wrong...it worked on both computers I have here so I am pretty sure you can replicate. Here's what to do:
1. Select a a root folder with subfolders in it that have images
2. With the root folder selected in the bowser window go to "View" > "Show files in subfolders" to load all the images in all subfolders
3. Switch to "Thumbnails & Details" View
4. Enter a description for 1 or more images
5. Still viewing all the images in "Thumbnails & Details" View, select all images (Ctrl + A).
6. Now go to "Create" > "File Listing" and check off some or all of the parameters in the check box
Your result will be a "listing.txt" file in Notepad with "-1" as the file sizes for all images, the file paths will display and the date will display (if you checked off ALL boxes). All other parameters will not display.
I figured out that the only way to get a file listing with all the details in it is I have to back up to the root folder which contains all the images, select the root folder icon and only then "Create" > "File Listing" while the root folder icon is selected. Then the "listing.txt" file will display everything.
Also, note that if you are showing a number of files across multiple subfolders in recursive mode and you attempt to refresh, XnView throws you back to the root folder.
Hope you can recreate...fingers crossed

I will also send you a PM with my email...thanks, Jon

Root folder like c:\?

				Hi Pierre,
I was hoping that was enough to reproduce

root like C:\
Yeah, you can put the main folder on C:\ but i really mean any folder with subfolders like this:
C:\Documents and
Settings\\Desktop\MainFolder
And under "MainFolder" you have (for example)

Main Folder
   - images1
          + 1.jpg
          + 2.gif
          + 3.jpg
   - images2
          + 4.jpg
          + 5.gif
If I recurse from the root "Main Folder" in the Browse view and it displays all images, then I select all the image icons and try to create the file listing, i get the error.
Is there a way I can attach screenshots here with step-by-step instructions of how I got to the error and what I am getting? If not, is there any way i can attach a .doc or .rtf file here with the step-by-step of how I arrived at the error?
Thanks,
jon

Ok, now i can reproduce it with 'recurse...'
