4 thumbnails not working
I have checked the option to create 4 thumbnails per video. For some reason it only creates 1, 2 or 3 thubnails for some videos.
The videos are playing fine in xnviemps viewer so it's likely not a problem of missing codecs.
Oh yes, and sometimes it shows 4 thumbs for a file but its the same picture for all 4.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
I did some more investigation into this.
Still 4 thumbnails does not produce 4 thumbnails for every movie file. I checked if that maybe is about broken files. I reverted to 1 single thumbnail and changed the perventage of the timestamp and it shows that xnviemp can show any timestamp of that file correctly in single thumbnail mode.
This means that for some reason in 4 thumbnail mode, xnviemp is not creating the 4 thumbnails correctly.
Now in regards to the 4 same thumbnails it might have to do with database upgrade from previous versions. I have recreated some thumbnails and for most files xnviewmp has again only created 1 thumbnail instead of 4 but this was the same picture that was displayed 4 times previously. So to me it looks that for some reason it does only create 1 thumbnail instead of 4 and that the remaining 3 empty positions got filled up with the same thumbnails. This might have happend when database has been updated in the past.
So best way would be to fix the issue of not creating 4 thumbnails, then there is no empty space left that has to get filled up.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
I did some more testing. The 4 thumbnails feature is NOT working for most of the video files. It is working for a small portion and is displaying 4 thumbs. But most files only show 1, 2 or 3 thumbs very randomly.
So this feature is not working.
Additionally the feature should respect the precentage setting. A lot of movies have black frames or intros at the beginning, so even with 4 thumbnails working, it is useless to capture the very first frames in a lot of cases, resulting in a black frame as first thumbnail.
So again, 4 thumbnails too should respect the timeframe percentage setting to get 4 useful thumbnails once the bug has been removed.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
Ok then look at my problem here. This is a fresh xnviemp zip which i have instracted and opened a folder with test files. All extensions have been set as video extensions in the settings manager.xnview wrote:i have no problem, i have always the 4 thumbnailsjadO wrote:I did some more testing. You can see that the first 2 although both flv do not produce a consistent thumbnail output. The first one gives 4 the second one only 1 thumpnail. 3gp gives 1 big tumbnail, mkv only 2, mp4 only 1.
I hope you can understand now the problem.
Re: 4 thumbnails not working
oh ok, so it seems that thumbnails extract have problem with some of your format codec... Could you send me one of each format video?
Pierre.

You can download from her: http://www.sample-videos.com/
Re: 4 thumbnails not working
Well these were only sample files that are on the internet. How can I check for seek errors myself? If that is the reason I have seek errors in 75% of my video files which I find hard to believe.xnview wrote:there is error to seek in the video file to retrieve frame...
Re: 4 thumbnails not working
One additional note: Currently it seems that Icaros is the best thumbnail creator for any type of media. As far as I know K-lite codec pack has incorporated it as well.
Suggestion to incorporate it into XnviewMP too: http://shark007.net/forum/Forum-Icaros-Development
It cannot create 4 thumbnails for a video but XnviewMP could use it to create the required thumbnails per video, store them and use them for displaying.
Edit: Another idea or question is: These files play well. The files I have tested XnvieMP was able to provide the thumbnail from any position in single thumnail mode. But if it can display any thumbnail in single thumbnail mode, it should not be too hard to run that function 4 times to get the required thumbnails for 4 thumbnails mode.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
Will there be a fix for this issue?
Re: 4 thumbnails not working
Inspired by this thread I checked that commons has the Big Buck Bunny, and in fact they have an 93 MB medium bitrate OGV (Ogg Video) created six years ago with ffmpeg2theora. Because that might be not state of the art (wrt video format conversions) I also checked what YouTube "offers for download" with one of those sites listing the download links for a given YouTube URL. Then I downloaded the biggest WEBM video + WEBA audio, planning to mux it with FFmpeg and upload the result to commons as alternative medium bitrate WEBM (video+audio), after all the license should be okay.
Something with Big Buck Bunny might be hard for thumbnails, Windows explorer crashes when I try to rename BBB, and the Media Preview configuration test page (based on a 2014 FFmpeg libav) is unresponsive for BBB. It works for almost all video formats on my box (+ several image formats not handled by other thumbnail generators not limited to XnView.) Maybe BBB is a special case, if we trust that a WEBM as found on YouTube is by definition a good WEBM.
P.S. some hours later, commons also had the 2.76 GB Big Buck Bunny 4K.webm, but I didn't try to download it. Now they also have a 88.88 MB WEBM alternative.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
I did the same with a different provider and downloaded the videos as follows:
http://keepvid.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fw ... -ZSoZScqBU
http://keepvid.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fww ... AtP7au_Q9w
http://keepvid.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fw ... AtP7au_Q9w
http://keepvid.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fw ... P6SlDSfcLE
http://keepvid.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fw ... Hy6bBKu0j4
Any download turned out to be only one preview picture with XnvieMP despite 4 thumbnail preview had been enabled. I don't believe all of them get suddenly corrupted or have seek errors. It simply does not work.

Re: 4 thumbnails not working
Your one thumbnail instead of four with XnView beats my "no thumbnail at all" with Media Peview for a Big Buck Bunny WEBM, but one day later I saw that I got a VP9 from YouTube: VP9 is new, the FFmppeg libav in Media Preview presumably does not yet support it.jadO wrote:It simply does not work.
After some minutes (sic!) del and ren on a command line finally worked for me, ditto rename and delete in explorer, i.e., there was a "preparing for recycling" popup open for some minutes, and another long delay before it actually happened. Do you have a shorter example, not Big Buck Bunny at almost 100 MB, and also not VP9 WEBM, where it's hard to tell if that's supported at all?
