Batch rename suggestions

Post by Evan »

[based on v0.76]

Hello,

I really like the batch rename tool in XnViewMP. I use it to add custom numbering to image filenames, but I am missing a few of features...

1) Allow to exclude images (from renaming, numbering etc...). A simple checkbox next to each file would do.
I know I could just select the images I want to rename beforehand, but... if you have a big folder of images, it's faster to select all and then invoke the dialog, and then decide later as you sort them around.

2) Drag'n'drop ordering of images. Allowing to re-arrange much faster than the move up/down buttons.

3) An enhanced list view where all thumbnails are visible next to the filenames.

Thanks!

-1

My workflow (a highly personal thing, of course) is so different to what the OP proposes that those options would actually rather hinder than help me. So, if implemented they should be optional and not active by default. IMHO.

All the above things are already implemented in Batch Convert: 1 & 3 can be done from the „Input” tab, while 2 can be done from „Output” tab, „Filename” pane.

Only one thing is missing: :)

In Format pane to add a Check-Box saying: [ ] Do NOT Convert (rename only)
...which will disable the conversion engine.

Much easier to implement compared with the redesign which you propose.

Disclaimer: Of course you do not have the Search & Replace feature from Rename dialog.

Are you referring to this m.Th quote?

If so, it is a separate function in the browser Tools > Batch convert...

Or are you referring to something else in a previous post?

You're using XnView Classic not 'MP so it's Tools > Batch Processing... as in your screenshot...

Thanks.
I must be very dumb, but still don't get how to manually sort them (like drag & droping) and then renaming it...

m.Th was referring to XnView MP which has a different, tabbed interface, so you would need to install that to try to follow his suggestion...

Otherwise, depending on exactly what you wish to do, you might possibly be better using one of the freeware dedicated renumbering utilities.
