PDF to JPEG. Need it in Landscape.

Post by Stangfire »

I'm trying to convert PDF to JPEG. My PDF's are in landscape mode and when I convert them to JPEG the JPEG paper is in portriat. I need to make the JPEG back ground to a landscape mode.

Edit: The JPEG ends up being in a portriat mode with the drawing in landscape and cut off the page.

Found the problem.

It was a ghost script version problem.

I am facing same problem, landscape PDFs are getting converted into portrait format.
We have nconvert version( Nconvert v6.05 & XnView v1.98) and ghostscript(9.05).
I tried to following combinations:
Nconvert v6.05 -> ghostscript 9.05 -> Not Working
Nconvert v6.05 -> ghostscript 9.06 -> Not Working
Nconvert v6.05 -> ghostscript 9.19 -> Not Working
Nconvert v6.88 -> ghostscript 9.19 -> Working

I would like to know compatible version of ghostscript for ncovert v6.05. Please help.

NConvert x32 needs GS x32 and NConvert x64 needs GS x64, are you sure you are using compatible versions?

Do you need to use NConvert v6.05, rather than download the current version from http://www.xnview.com/en/nconvert/ ?

We are using NConvert x64 with GS x64.
Just to explain versions- when I run convert cmd, it shows NConvert version:
C:\Users\tempkayad>"C:/apps/XnView/nconvert" -transpcolor 255 255 255 -merge_alpha -truecolors -out jpeg -overwrite -dpi 150 -xall -o "C:\temp\convert/%-page###.jpg" "C:\temp\convert\A1.pdf"
** NCONVERT v6.05 (c) 1991-2011 Pierre-E Gougelet (Feb 23 2012/21:40:50) **
Version for Windows Xp/Vista/7 x64 (All rights reserved)

And in my GS/bin folder I have following 4 files
gsdll64.dll
gsdll64.lib
gswin64.exe
gswin64c.exe

With Latest NConvert(v6.88) its working fine for GS version > 9.04.
If this a known issue in NConvert-v6.05 then maybe we are not left with any other option but if there is any problem with GS version then I would like to keep v6.05 of NConvert.

I don't know if there might have been any relevant issue with particular NConvert or GS versions, but it would be unusual I think...
With Latest NConvert (v6.88) its working fine for GS version > 9.04.
Is there any downside to using NConvert v6.88 with GS v9.04 or the current v9.19?

A question of 32-bit/64-bit????

Have you tried NConvert 32-bit + Ghostscript 32-bit with Java 6, if there could be any doubt?

If the problem remains unresolved and seems to be due to an incompatibility between certain NConvert and certain Ghostscript versions, you can download old versions of NConvert here and old versions of Ghostscript are available on this site.

Actually with latest installation is works fine from command prompt the problem only persist when I try to execute same command from java program.
try {
Runtime app = Runtime.getRuntime();
logger.info("Executing external application NConvert with command7777: \n" + command);
process = app.exec(command, null, workingDirectory);
logger.info("Executed");
} catch(Exception e1) {
logger.info("exception "+e1);
logger.info("Execute success"+process.getErrorStream());
}
logger.info("Execute success");
After Executing external application NConvert with command7777 I am not getting any logs, no exception.
If it would a case of 32 or 64 bit installation then I dont think it would be working from cmd prompt.
Also with existing version of NConvert -6.05 and GS-9.05 is 64 bit.

Till NConvert 6.21 images are properly getting converted(but page orientation issue persist) from java program but from NConvert 6.82 onwards its just hanging all the time irrespective of GhostScript version.
