Recommendation: allow a user to choose if a file is copied or moved by default during drag and drop operations.
Discussion:
It appears that the default behaviour, at least on my macOS system, is to copy a file when dragging and dropping it. The default behaviour on most file systems and image browsers is to move a file when it's on the same filesystem and copy it when it's on a different file system. The default behaviour seems to violate this convention and makes certain operations, such as sorting images, difficult without the use of a modifier key.
Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum, ralisse.
At least in the Windows edition, this bug is fixed since version 0.82. I'm moving your topic to “Bug Reports”.

Re: Drag and Drop Copy/Move
Greetings.
I'm experiencing this issue on linux with v0.83. Also would be nice if dragging images to the folders in favorites panel was possible.

Re: Drag and Drop Copy/Move
I have neither Linux nor MaxOS at hand so no way for me to reproduce and confirm this problem.
A hint which might be used as workaround till the problem is fixed:
- When using Drag&Drop, press "Ctrl" when dropping to force copying the file(s).
- When using Drag&Drop, press "Shift" when dropping to force moving the file(s).
- The mouse cursor indicates whether you files will be copied or moved.

Eh!... nice?? Very nice! However, here it would get overlooked. That's why I opened it again in a new thread:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=34691
Disclaimer: This was mentioned enough times in different threads in the past by me and others, however nobody (AFAIK - our Librarian is free to correct me ) didn't mention it as a separate topic.
EDIT: Just found it! : http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=28297 (I bumped it, of course - nice discussion inside)

Re: MacOS: Drag & Drop: Copy/Move
Feature "MacOSX drag&drop -> Move instead of Copy" has been added in 0.85.
@Pierre: What does this mean in detail?
Could someone please download the current test version, check, and confirm?

Can't find this option in latest 0.85b2 for macOS. Please, specify where to find this feature?helmut wrote:Feature "MacOSX drag&drop -> Move instead of Copy" has been added in 0.85.

Re: MacOS: Drag & Drop: Copy/Move
XnView 0.85b2
Feature works but only partially - when I drag image to folder in Thumbnails+Filenames view, it really moves file into directory.
But when I drag file from thumbnails to the tree view, it shows green cross and copy file to directory.
Please, confirm that this is normal behaviour.
