Post by helmut »

There's more and more people hitting this forum. I think it's interesting to know how people have found to the XnView Forum.

- Both novice and experienced forum users are invited to vote.
- You can vote or vote and write a comment, if you like.
- This poll will run for one week.

EDIT 20.12.2010:
I have reopened the poll. Please vote or post.

I voted "Other" because I was already a user while Xnview had its own newsgroups. So I kind of migrated

I followed the link on the home page. I don't recall whether it was in regards to a specific issue, or merely out of curiosity.

XnView Home page, but there is another way - XnView menu > Info > Visit XnView's Newsgroup... (it should be changed to forum here too).

Usually I try to find forum in menu > Help, or Help > About dialog box, then on homepage.

Right, the menu item is another way to get here. I've just added it as poll result.

O.k.. Our "Help" menu is named "Info" for some reason only Pierre knows. ;-)

OMGWTF :? Could it be that we are banned?!
Google Web Search wrote: Your search - site:newsgroup.xnview.com test - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:
 • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
 • Try different keywords.
 • Try more general keywords.
 • Try fewer keywords.
site:forum.xnview.com test doesn't return any results either.

 I think you are right. I can't find any links to pointing to this forum anymore. How could this happen.
XnView Tweak UI - Tool to customize your XnView beyond the regular XnView options.
UI-less Settings - Documentation of all the hidden settings in XnView.

Google Banned Tool wrote:Site: newsgroup.xnview.com

1st Check.........

"Google cannot see this website".

2nd Check (using a slightly different method).

"Google again cannot see this website. Its probably banned if not a fresh site."
That's not nice.

Hmm, let's see here:

newsgroup.xnview.com is the URL of the official discussion boards for XnView, which is free digital photo organizing software for Windows & Linux etc.
Google acquired Picasa, which is free digital photo organizing software for Windows & Linux.

It's a conspiracy! I mean, you have to be blind to miss that :P

Maybe google didn't like the links in those spam topics. But it sounds odd, since XnView forum really isn't the only forum with spam. And also people posts all kind of crap in other forums too and still those forums don't get banned. :?:

The Register: Full-up Google choking on web spam? (04/May/2006) wrote:Webmasters have been seething at Google since it introduced its 'Big Daddy' update in January, the biggest revision to the way its search engine operates for years.

Alarm usually accompanies changes to Google's algorithms, as the new rankings can cause websites to be demoted, or disappear entirely. But four months on from the introduction of "Big Daddy," it's clear that the problem is more serious than any previous revision - and it's getting worse.
