1.0: Missing thumbnail for .wmv video using codec (wmv2)

Post by Neuro-NX »

XnView: MP 1.0 - 64-bit
OS: Linux - 64-bit

XnViewMP is not generating a thumbnail for videos with extension .wmv, that is using the much older 'wmv2' video codec 'Windows Media Video 8'.

Effect: Missing thumbnail

To reproduce:
1. Select View > Info panels > ExifTool
2. Select View > Info panels > Show
3. Browse to a folder with .wmv file using wmv2 codec
4. Verify codec by viewing ExifTool tab > ASF > Video Codec Name
5. Video should play fine, but no thumbnail will be shown in the browser

Expected behaviour: Thumbnail to be generated for wmv video file using wmv2 video codec

Note, I cannot upload video file due to privacy reasons. You will have to obtain a sample video elsewhere.

I will likely use ffmpeg to re-encode the videos to another format. However it would be better to fix this bug for other users.

I just updated to version 1.4.2, and can confirm WMV2 video thumbnails are now being generated.
