Unfortunately, it appears to behave the same in 1.3.1.

Same exact as previous. Here's another video showing the same photo (/same path length), same behavior, with the About dialog showing 1.3.1: https://jiij.cc/snaps/2022-10-14_08.20.21.mp4

Strange.

The full path & filename of the pic shown in the screenshare is

Code: Select all

D:\_Pics+Vids_\PicsToSort\2020-02) Covid (Covey,Kingston,Iceland,Kauai,Baltic)\2022-07-26) EU (UK,Finland,Estonia,Lithuania,Belarus,Poland)\2022-08-04) Estonia - Tallinn Pharmacy; Creative City; Prison; Coastal Bikeride (Compressed)\4803 - 20220804_120509 (Glo).jpg

It now shows a dialog "An error occurred, the lossless rotation can't be executed."

And an additional file appears, named like the original, but .jp_ instead of .jpg:
5371 - 20220805_115434.jpg
5371 - 20220805_115434.jp_ <-When I try to rotate, this is newly created next to the original (and the rotation doesn't take place).

Not sure what you mean by "always in edit mode". Here's another video, like before: https://jiij.cc/snaps/2022-12-15_06.43.17.mp4

yes you are in 'edit mode'
i've tried with

Code: Select all

D:\_Pics+Vids_\PicsToSort\2020-02) Covid (Covey,Kingston,Iceland,Kauai,Baltic)\2022-07-26) EU (UK,Finland,Estonia,Lithuania,Belarus,Poland)\2022-08-04) Estonia - Tallinn Pharmacy; Creative City; Prison; Coastal Bikeride (Compressed)\4803 - 20220804_120509 (Glo).jpg
with all is ok...

I'm not sure what you're referring to - could you post a video or clarify?

* I see nothing in the menus, settings, or toolbar buttons called "Edit Mode."
* There's nothing on the Wiki: https://www.xnview.com/wiki/index.php?t ... User_Guide.
* I've tried searching the forum, and although you refer to "Edit Mode" a few times, I haven't found an explanation of what that actually means.
* Settings->Interface->Switching Mode refer only to "Browser", "Viewer", and "Fullscreen" - no such thing as "Edit Mode." These were the only 3 modes I was aware of.
* I also tried rotating in "Browser Mode," and the behavior is the same: it shows the error dialog and creates the _jpg file.

What is "Edit mode," why does this cause rotation to break, and how can I get into a "mode" where "all is ok"?

I take Pierre to be referring to XnView MP having two modes: (File) Browser and Viewer/Image Editor...

I don't think he can be referring to "View Mode" as "Edit Mode," as "View Mode" is what's already shown in my video above.

The alternative names, used inconsistently by different users, can be confusing, but what I for convenience described as Viewer/Image Editor mode reflects the fact that images are displayed in that mode (Viewer), and can also optionally be edited in that mode, for example cropped or enhanced.
