Fatal crash: 1.5.4 abends when opening subfolders

Post by lphilpot »

XNView MP 1.5.4.0 64 bit Libformat 7.154
Windows 11 Home

Just downloaded and installed, this bug is reproduceable.

When I try to open certain folders (usually the last child in a branch) either by double-clicking the thumbnail or selecting it from the folder tree, XNView crashes without any error message. It's happened 10+ times so far on different folders, but has worked successfully on a few other folders. However, there's nothing different about any of these folders and they all open without incident in other programs -- including other image viewers. The security is no different on the folders that fail. I've not added new folders nor made any changes, etc. These folders have been here for months with no changes other than images added / deleted in them. Other than images "coming and going", it's a static environment.

I confirmed the signature of the installer is good. I renamed my user folder (in AppData\Roaming) and tried again with a clean config, but it still crashes in the same manner. There's no error message and I don't know where to get logs (I looked under AppData\Roaming and Local).

Where can I download the last version (1.5.3 64 bit) so I can work until this is fixed?

Thanks.

Old versions :D

Perhaps the link could be made easier to find, but I'm not sure how?

I saw that, but this is why I didn't even go there:

The label needs to be updated.

Ah, no. That link, points to the exact same file, as the link to the current version.

In the bottom folder it's TIFFs, JPGs and an Affinity Photo file (.afphoto) or two. In the immediate parent folder it's (Canon raw) CR3s and maybe another raw file of some other format (Sony ARW, etc.). Plus there are a few sidecars, xmp and other text formats. Nothing unusual at all.

None of those are an issue with any other programs, including all previous versions of XNView. I reinstalled 1.5.3 and all is ok again.

Thanks.

OK, it's related to TIFFs. That would explain why it happens on most, but not all, folders. Due to my raw processing photo workflow, I tend to have TIFFs "left over" in a folder more often than not. There are only a relative few image folders that don't contains at least one TIFF.

Thanks.
