1.7.2 64-bit W10
[Edit: in the following, my shortcut for File - Save Selection... is Shift-Ctrl-S]
When on opening or after a crop you do Ctrl-A to highlight everything, Shift-Ctrl-S (Save Selection) doesn't save, which it should, however if you zoom out Shift-Ctrl-S does then save.
In addition to the above, it would be good for Save Selection if no selection were treated as everything selected, as there is utility in it saving to the source directory when Ctrl-S is saving to a different directory.
Hopefully an easy one to reproduce.
Cheers, David

Re: Save Selection not saving (conditions mentioned)
Ctrl+Shift+S is 'Save as...', not 'Save selection...'
Note that there is also 'Save selection' (w/o triple dots) command that saves selection size (Edit > Selection - set size)
no, it should not work like thismeteorquake wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:03 pm it would be good for Save Selection if no selection were treated as everything selected
it looks like you need to be more familiar how basic saving operations work:meteorquake wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:03 pm as there is utility in it saving to the source directory when Ctrl-S is saving to a different directory.
- case with file
- Save (Ctrl+S)
saves open file by overwriting original
- Save as... (Ctrl+Shift+S)
opens Save as dialog, allowing to save in different location/name
- Save (Ctrl+S)
- case w/o file
both commands opens Save as dialog

Re: Save Selection not saving (conditions mentioned)
Hello, so to your points...
Ctrl-Shift-S is most definitely "Save Selection..." on mine, not Save As, and the shortcut is against the menu entry. I assumed it was the default but I must have changed that in the past, as it can mimic Save As whilst providing additional functionality in terms of directory logic and saving the selection. (I have Ctrl-S mapped to Save As, to avoid accidentally overwriting files whilst providing alternative directory logic).
By "Save Selection" I mean with three dots, as under the File menu, but I take your point Save Selection can have another meaning, but we're talking about the one under the File menu.
What I'm mentioning is the issue as described, that it doesn't save the selection when you call it from the shortcut, unless you zoom out or do something like click a menu header (even if you action nothing on the menu), so obviously it does save if you call Save Selection... from the menu since you've clicked a menu. This seems to me an obvious bug, that happens to impact me a lot.
And my other point, that no selection would be good to be treated as all selected when Save Selection... is called (by shortcut at least) as there are benefits to that due to its different directory logic.
