What Kind of Tif is this? From Abbyy FineReader 8

Post by brotondi »

Hi

I need to manipulate Scanns after FineReader saved them as a special Tif with 3 Frames. But no Program I know can read these Tifs...

Here an example: http://brotondi.pytalhost.com/0005.tif

Any Idea? (Dont lose too much time)

Thanks!

Two in three…

:) Hello !

• Indeed XnView displays only the first frame, and doesn't open the others… :|

- The same with "The Gimp" … The best I could obtain is with "Imagine",
originally a free plugin for Total Commander (has a standalone version too…).

- I get this :

- No more, sorry… The third frame is black.

I can confirm Clo's observation. The 2nd frame is either corrupted or blank, but the 1st and 3rd seem to be OK.

Using XnView, you could extract those frames/pages into separate images:
  • Tools » Multipage file » Extract All Into...
You'll probably get a warning message (“TIFF : Bad data compression algorithm !”), but the extracted first and last frame should be just fine.

Method #2: Jump to a specific frame, copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C) and then paste it into an image editor.
  • View » Page » Last (Shift+End) / First (Shift+Home)

:) Hello !

• There is a snag with XnView : Despite the "Next page" button is available, it doesn't work !

- You don't get the next page !

- With "Extract all to…", I get only the two frames I show above, and like you say,
I get the error message (probably for the faulty missing frame)

 Twisted format… :?

Thanks for your efforts. I think this is no regular Tiff-format

FineReader 8 (http://www.abbyy.com/finereader8/?param=45596) can import this Tiff (and all similar) without problem. From there it can be exportet (after some manual work for each single picture) to a regular jpg.

Unfortunately FineReader-Support was not able to tell me more about this format...

:) Hello !

- You are welcome !

- When trying to open the pic with "The Gimp", I got a very detailled error message
(not faulty pic, but not supported) with the exact type of file…
