[OK] Change mouse button for moving large images

Post by Dreamer »

Now in preview I can move large image with LMB - like in all other programs I know, but in viewer and fullscreen I can't do it, I can move them with RMB only - it's not just unusual (many xnview users were acdsee users before) but also confusing. So I've got suggestion...

Option always use LMB for moving large images that could be enabled or disabled. If enabled, use RMB for selecting.

LMB = left mouse button
RMB = right mouse button

Thank you very much!

Yes, let user could choose..

Before xnview, I always used LMB for moving large images (and now in other programs), even now, I often try first LMB, then RMB... So it's very important for me and I believe for many (new) xnview users...

So if it's not too hard to implement, add it please.
Thank you!

...also, first time, if no zoom is applied, 'make a selection' could be possible to do with both mouse buttons - because 'make a selection' is needed for 'zoom and move' as well as for 'crop'

Inconsistent behaviour should be avoided. Why not solve this by supporting both left and right mouse button to move image in preview? Or right button for moving only, but then left button has no functionality.

Yes, so I want just Always move with LMB and Always move with RMB options - make a selection always with another button... but first time, if no zoom is applied, make a selection could be possible to do with both mouse buttons.

But when your picture is zoomed, how to make selection?

So if image is zoomed, move with just one button!

Oh i think that i now understood :-)
* Zoom is 100%, so you can use LMB or RMB to make selection
* Zoom is not 100%, so you use LMB ot make selection, RMB to move picture
(or RMB ot make selection, LMB to move picture by an option).
Is it right?

Almost :wink:

* If image is not larger than screen/window, use LMB or RMB to make selection
* If image is larger than screen/window, use LMB to make selection, RMB to move picture
(or RMB ot make selection, LMB to move picture by an option).

Or is (not) larger than screen/window is the same as is (not) able to move - because not all images (in fullscreen) are at 100% zoom - if option 'Fit image to window' is enabled.

How about use the Mozilla Firefox style of panning around an image. Middle-click toggles on the panning mode. Then just move the mouse around to pan around a large image. Middle-click again to take you out of that mode.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think it's the nicest way to pan around large images that I've used because pressing and holding onto a mouse button as you pan around causes strain if you are doing this for many consecutive images.

I guess I know what you talking about, but I don't like this idea. Middle mouse button is already used for switching between fullscreen and viewer and also I think it would not be as accurate as now...

Yes, the Firefox way isn't great when viewing on an LCD - too much ghosting. I guess neither is the grab-and-drag approach...

How about an option to set how many pixels to jump when you hit the arrow keys (or any other function that affects image scrolling/panning)? Right now hitting the down arrow moves the image down by one pixel which I don't find useful (although others may). If it can be configured to be something like 20 pixels, then that makes scrolling by arrow keys much more useful.

Thoughts?
