I also see crash by resizing program window in layout 5 (Debian 'testing'; libqt4-core 4.4.0-3; fluxbox window manager). Thumbnails view.
No problem with layout 3 as shown below (without categories or favourites).

Do you have an abnormal system cpu activity (not user cpu activity) in this case ?
And do you have this problem only with layout 5 ? because i also have this problem with layout 3 (even without categories or favorites)
Just for an accurate information, i use the latest one from Ubuntu hardy depository (the usual one at this date:16/07/08) : libqt4-core 4.4.0-1.

Turning off option "use shadow" makes program more stable (for me) when adjusting thumbnail slider.

I had already turned this option off, this was a little bit better but not enough.
