RC2: Reorder menu "View > View as"
We have various views: Details, Icons, Thumbnails & Details, and so on. I wonder whether the current order is good.
I think it would be more intuitive to have the following order:
Thumbnails
Thumbnails & Details
Details
Icons
List
Especially when toggling through the views using F8 (and Shift-F8 ?), a good order will be helpful.

Re: RC2: Reorder menu "View > View as"
Just a little correction - F9.helmut wrote:Especially when toggling through the views using F8 (and Shift-F8 ?), a good order will be helpful.
Yes but not enough I think, because you must go also back, Shift-F9 would be intuitive but not easy to use.helmut wrote:...a good order will be helpful.
I suggest this option (with different order too, but order is not really important):
Switch between these views with F9:
[x] Thumbnails
[x] Details
[x] Thumbnails & Details
[x] Icons
[x] List
And maybe also Switch between these views with F10:
[x] Thumbnails
[x] Details
[x] Thumbnails & Details
[x] Icons
[x] List
Most users never use some views.
There will be many posibilities with these options.

What's the difference between F9 and F10, then?Dreamer wrote:I suggest this option (with different order too, but order is not really important):

Above you're drafting the "fully featured" options, which would make this really flexible. But I wonder whether there is a real need for this. I suggest to see how we go with the toggling with the function keys and then look into this again before the next major release.

Reason why I want answer now is below:helmut wrote:Above you're drafting the "fully featured" options, which would make this really flexible. But I wonder whether there is a real need for this. Another idea (to save space in options dialog) with more possibilities:
Code: Select all
Switch between these views with:
F9 F10 Move
[x] [x] [*] Thumbnails
[x] [x] [*] Details
[x] [x] [*] Thumbnails & Details
[x] [x] [*] Icons
[x] [x] [*] List
* = some "move up & down" button or [1st-5th] number, any ideas are welcomed...
- you could switch between 'Thumbnails' and 'Details' views with F9 and between all views with F10
- you could switch to 'Thumbnails' with F9 and to 'Details' with F10 (or different / custom...)
- you could switch between 'Thumbnails' and 'Details' views with F9 and between 'Thumbnails' and 'Thumbnails & Details' with F10 (or different / custom...)
...
Wow. I see that you have put a lot of thinking into this feature...
Dreamer: your last proposal is great, but the 2 full featured F9/F10 setup might look overwhelming for most users.
The majority will probably select views through the menu, some will actually use the F9 key to move through all views to get the one they want and few will actually setup everything to their liking. Moreover, I suspect those 'few' to stick to 2 (or 3) views only.
It might be better to keep only 1 switching key (F9) with setup possibilities (default=all), with the usual shift for reverse order => the demanding 'geek' will be able to setup and move quickly between their favorite views with 1 key (+it's much easier to remember only 1 order instead of 2) and select their hardly used ones with the Menu.
But that's only my opinion...

PS: I am impressed with the work done and the activity in the forum right now. Wow - bis...

Dreamer et al,
as written above, I think your solution is good. But I still think that it's oversized at the moment.
There's really important issues that should be handled, first: E.g. at the moment you can add programs to the "Open with" menu, but you can never remove single items, rename or reorder them. Having excellent options for one thing but very basic or no options for another is not so good and makes a software unbalanced. So I think we should have your suggestioin in mind for a future release (near future, not far future
).

Now that I check in RC3, I see that the second order
Thumbnails
Thumbnails & Details
Icons
List
Details
has been implemented.
It's not really bad, but from my point of view the first order (see Pierre's post above) is more logical: Similar views are next to each other (Thumbnails, Thumbnails & Details, Details).

Pierre.
O.k. The way it is now is close to MS Explorer. I'll close this one.xnview wrote:Hum, i think that the second is more logicalhelmut wrote:Now that I check in RC3, I see that the second order
