MP 0.31 Crashes
Hello, everyone. First: nice work. . Been using xnview for a while.
MP 0.31 crashes & exists on me when reading some pic dirs, worst of all I cant say why. First I thought it was because of mixed file types (jpg, jpeg, png) I removed all but jpg and it crashes the same. Then I thought it was to many files in a dir (800, 2400) but in other dir with 1100 it does not crash.
MP 0.26 does NOT crash on the same dirs, neither does plain 1.97.8. I can´t try MP 0.30 because the download link gives me 0.31
Ideas please?
PS: I TOTALLY agree with the post "Thumbs resize desperately needs rethink"

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
You have perhaps a jpeg file with XMP that crash XnViewMP.
Do you see the file when it crashes?
Do you see the file when it crashes?
Pierre.
Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
Pierre, no I can´t see any file, app just hangs and closes while it is scanning in thumbnail mode a directory. It is not always the same, the only common factor I find is that when it crashes it is on dirs that have a lot of files.
But neither MP 0.26 nor 1.97.8 crash on those dirs.
OS is Win7 x64, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, GForce 8600 GT video card.
Thanks for your answer!
Pierre sorry but what is exactly a file with xmp??

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
XMP is metadata.
Could you try to disable Option/Metadata>Import XMP or IPTC
Could you try to disable Option/Metadata>Import XMP or IPTC
Pierre.
Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
Disabled as you asked first. Crashed again. Disable ALL in metadata "tab", crashes the same. Cleaned ALL thumbnail data, crashes the same.
0.26 does not crash.
BTW: each time I open a folder it rescans everything? takes yearssssss

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
Hello,
Do you have also tried with a fresh XnView.db & xnview.ini file ?
(you can rename or delete them)

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
OK, just tried:
deleted all ini and db. Started prog, crashed AGAIN on same dirs.
0.26 does not crash.
Copied 0.26 ini to 0.31 dir... CRASHES. On the same dirs as before.
Uh, maybe I could copy the ini file contents here?, or upload it somewhere?

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
It crashes with any unrecognized extension, along with new incremental thumbnails function.
To recreate:
-Use normal text file (like country.txt from program's folder)
-Rename it to country.sh, or country.iso
-Move it to test folder.
To help avoid in 0.31:
-Use details view.
-[x]Create thumbnails for whole folder
-Place non-images in another folder.

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
Marsh: on my system it does not avoid. 0.31 still crashes.marsh wrote: To help avoid in 0.31:

Attached goes my xnview ini file (the 0.31 version one), just in case it is useful for developers.
BTW: one of my main use of xnview IS thumbnail view ...

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
According to your ini file, incremental thumbnails function was used.
Try changing it to false.
Code: Select all
onTheFly=true
Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
marsh, hangs even in detail view. Attaching screen captrure and ini file that matches.

Re: MP 0.31 Crashes
Before starting program, I suggest deleting XnView.db and editing ini to launch in details view:
Code: Select all
[browser]
viewAs=5

Bonjour,
Pierre,
constatant que seul ce dossier est en cause, n'aurait-il pas un fichier contenant une url qui tente une connexion (interne ou externe) et bloque le prog ! J'ai déjà eu ce problème avec un autre prog !
Juste à titre d'infos.
