If yes, on which domain?
Yes.

XnViewMP is the future of XnView and soon would replace XnView standard once has all it's features and that isn't a long way a way.

I agree with Peter2.

Remember that a new website would not just be for XnViewMP only but for all other XnView family apps too. I see that on your XnView twitter you are already using new logo - that's great and that's how the new website should progress too, new website, MP logo, MP icon favicon etc

Something close to Thibaud's wordpress concept mixed with a bit of my ideas and feedback from this topic, would be just sufficient.

My take on the subject is quite simple, don't confuse the user, what I would do:
a single domain name under which all software would be accessible (I would not make separate website for them.) either use xnview.com or find something more global like xnSoft.net,...
to keep things consistent and homogeneous. while strengthening the XN identity.
some decisions needs to be taken though regarding the naming of xnViewMp and the future of Xnview in order to properly position them on the website and makes things as clear as possible.
I'm inclined to encourage you to more aggressively shift XnView developement to MP essentially and rename xnview to (for example) xnview Legacy.

I've made a small update to the mockup.
http://projects.apricus.be/XnView/
both 3 links are click-able now xnview, xnconvert, xnsdk - just displaying the logo for now.
Aren't they making a pretty family now ? :)

I agree 100%. This is very well said and XnSoft sounds Xcellent!

...and 100% agreement with this too. As smooth and fast and great as XnView "Legacy" is, if MP had the same functionality/features/tools, I would choose to use MP instead.

I agree too, like I said here: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 234#p91234
...I 'm also thinking than the priority number one is (and should mostly be): the development of the MPs versions until almost all based standard 1.9X features will be implemented.

You could still make the new site now but on the new website have 'Xnview legacy' as first shown app. Have new xnview logo as favicon and main banner logo etc

I like this idea very much after thinking about it myself.

So I would advise xnfamily.com (XnView Family/XnView Famille) and then everything under that one domian, like the following examples:

Code: Select all

http://xnfamily.com/xnview/
http://xnfamily.com/xnconvert/
http://xnfamily.com/xnshell/
http://xnfamily.com/nconvert/
http://xnfamily.com/xnview-classic/

http://fixpicture.org
Or if not, it's more than likely that xnsoft.com would be more suitable 'soft' is more to the point that it's all software.

http://xnfamily.com/xnconvert/ -------> the current design of the XnConvert.com website is just fine, keep that, but just change the address names to the above.

I am sorry to seem at odds with many of budz45's suggestions. It's not intentional.

But "family" has more of an "health-social-domestic" implication to me (as opposed to a group of software offerings).

It's a good reason not to change the domain name...
