I have XP SP2 too, and can't reproduce this bug. I've tried with avi, mov, wmv...

I recently tried the new version 1.92 and unfortunatly still encounter the same problem with movie-viewing and mode-switching on each xp-machine tested so far
Is there a chance to fix that problem in upcoming versions?
Wouldn't it be nice to add the option to switch between fullscreen and browser mode directly without having the viewer mode in between? The problem seems to associated with this "mode switching" as ramone figured out.

It's difficult to fix it if i can't reproduce it

You got a point there, Pierre. Then the question would be: Why do some people have this problem while others don't? I don't think its because of the system background (XP or XP Pro on several machines, even freshly installed ones). I will try the english setup the next days. Or might it be dependent on some personal settings in the options of XnView?

exactly the same problem here. XnView is one of the best freeware programs I've ever seen. Unfortunately the crashes with videos are a little bit annoying.

With XnView 1.93.6 I get the following information from VS2008:
Unhandled exception at 0x66a12459 in xnview.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000252.

Maybe an uninitialized pointer ...

Yep - I just did a quick test with avi/mov/mpg/wmv from different sources.

I tried the following in a folder with pics and videos:
1) Click on a picture to bring up XnView in full screen mode -> picture is shown -> browse with page up/down -> Exception as soon as a video is encountered
2) Click on a video to bring up XnView in full screen mode -> video is playing -> Exception while video is playing (or no Exception, but browsing doesn't work)
3) Click on a picture to bring up XnView in full screen mode -> press Enter to go to the XnView Browser -> press Enter to return to full screen mode -> no problem while browsing through pics and videos

I seems that the necessary initialization is done when opening the XnView Browser. Can this be a problem in combination with ffdshow?

Btw - this time I got an Exception on a different prog cnt:
Unhandled exception at 0x004b2f83 in xnview.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.

Well, that sounds like what I wrote in a different thread before. The crash happens in a specific mode and only when changing between pictures and movies.

I have the same problem with my movie files on my brand new Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook with Windows XP SP3. I have installed XP twice and only installed drives and servicepacks. Original Apple Quicktime 7.4.5 plays the mov video, but XNview crashes. Same problem with Media Player Classic. I'm using XNView and Media Player Calssic on two other notebooks an both works fine.

I tested with K-Lite Codec Pack, Qicktime Alternative, Apple Quicktime original, but everytime XNview crashes in fullscreen mode and when the video part of the browser window is to large.

Hope that helps to fix the problem as XNView is my favourite to view pictures and videos from my digicam.

Hi again. This is just to let you know I still have exactly the same problem as I described here a year ago, and it's the same like everyone in this thread is describing. I've been upgrading to every new version and the problem is always exactly the same. I hope it can be fixed someday. Until then, I will still continue to use this great program. Thanks!

Ok, with your .ini, i can reproduce the problem & crash. It's only if the preview is hidden!!
