I think being able to copy categories both ways will be most useful. After all, your pictures do not start off with keywords assigned.

I can add this feature if you think that it's useful

That would be such a useful tool.

But please, not fully automatic but as an optional or selected function. For example menu options: "Transfer categories of selected file(s) to IPTC Keywords" and "Transfer IPTC Keywords of selected file(s) to categories "

Of course issues with "append", "overwrite" and categories with branched subcategories would need to be resolved.

But it will be so useful.

Thanks

+1, as option only, not automatically,
and maybe, if possible with the same way than into the MP version for IPTC keywords (into xnview.db).
Plus an option to add manually an (or some) IPTC keyword to a jpg by browsing the existing keywords DB. (like within MP for categories, colors, rates).

PS: useful for v1.9X and also for MP ( this kind of behavior is already implemented into Digikam ).

automatically or not automatically, this can also be an option?
tho I guess it's easyy enough to select files and press 'update'
sometimes menu items are a bit messy now, metadata menu etc some one main but not context menu, maybe those need a revamp too.

I'm new here - can I ask what MP is?

I'm also looking for something that will import categories, my preference is from the metadata, but I could live with import from text file.

But I need to have hierarchical categories, flat's no good for me.

I haven't looked at XNView for a long time, it's certainly come a long way in the last year or two - well done to everyone who's contributed.

In what timeframe might one expect to see a category import feature - e.g. Q209, QA410 ?

Hi,

I should have known that - interesting and relevant, especially Mac

What about importing hierarchical categories - can it be done? If so how ?
  • if from metadata- which data fields can be used, and what notation is used to represent hierarchy

if from external file what format (text, xmp etc) and what notation is used to represent hierarchy
Thanks

Hello Pierre,

I'm keen to find out if any progress has been made on this.

Thanks

I hope MP doesn't mean it will be dumbed down to the lowest level OS. Both Win and Mac have useful UI features lacking in Linux which would be very sad to lose.

+1 on this feature.
