Nope, no network drives. That does seem like a likely place for timeouts though.
I have 2 external drives, an empty DVD drive, a flash drive and a virtual dvd drive (I have tried disabling this to see if it is causing the delays, but no effect).
Is there any way to disable it looking for network drives to see if that is the problem?

Even more odd, if I have the Tree Pane turned off (View > Tree Pane > Show) then XnView starts up instantly (as it should). I can then toggle the tree pane open and it's already populated like normal (i.e. it's not just taking a long time to load while it's hidden). However, I get the long delay when exiting XnView instead. Weird.
View > Tree Pane > Shown
Startup = ~45 seconds
Shutdown = Instant
View > Tree Pane > (not) Shown
Startup = instant
Shutdown = ~45 seconds
Edit: Also, it doesn't matter what state the tree pane is when it shuts down, shut down time is only affected by whether it was open or closed when xnview started.

Very strange, could you try XnViewMP and tell me if you have same problem?

XnViewMP 0.26.1 doesn't have that problem, and actually seems very quick. There's some slowdown when loading extremely large directories for the first time but that's somewhat expected. No freezes though!

Strange, it's almost the same code (XnViewMP use thread to check subfolder)
If you start the browser on C: or D: for example, do you have the same problem?

I get the delay regardless of what drive or directory I start on. I can't seem to reproduce it in XnViewMP though.

Maybe you can also try to run XnView with the admin rights, ( Xnview seems to work better with it on Windows seven).
Do you have a difference with or without Admin rights ?

Check your Network folder. Sometimes shares and printers from long-gone PCs are stored there and some programs pick them up. I haven't seen it happen on 7 yet, just XP, but it's a possibility. If I click on the Network in the folder pane when I open XnView, I get the long hang too.

Install it in the root, like C:/xnview you mean? I could try that

Right click > Run as Administrator didn't do anything different, still had the same delay.

No start the browser of XnView with D:\

I actually tried starting it in C:, D:, F: (flash drive) and H: (external drive), none of them had any effect.
Ssettings:
Options > General > Operations tab
- Launch browser at startup (checked)
- Startup directory (last used)
Procedure:
Navigate to D:, close Xnview, restart.
I also tried setting specified startup directory and "D:\", but same problem still.

Could you try to rename the XnView folder located in 'Application Data'?

Has the same effect as a new install, but no effect on the delay. Are there possibly windows DLLs that xnview uses that could be affected by other software?
