The question is - in 1.80 or not - Pierre?
I've not put thumbnail of wmv because takes very long to create...
Hmmm. That's weird. Why can the ordinary Windows Explorer create them that quickly then (about 4 per second)?
Ah well, if you knew you would have already fixed it, i guess.
P.S.: The threads topic already says "REQ:" so this was never meant to be a bugreport.
I can send you a beta version with WMV support, and you tell me if it's ok??
Send me a PM with your email.

Ok. I tried the last version you sent me. I can't get it to create WMV thumbnails on my computer. I tried it on a different PC, too, and it didn't work there either - at first. Then i changed a few settings and whatnot and now it works on that PC - really strange.
So i tried to use the .ini from that PC with mine but still no luck.
I have no clue what's going on here. Maybe it's a codec issue but it shouldn't since i can watch WMVs in and outside of XnView - i just can't get those damn thumbnails to show up!
Maybe you should send that version to someone else, too. I'm outta luck here...
P.S.: Thumbnail creation worked pretty fast on that other computer. So combined with caching it shouldn't be a problem to have WMV thumbnails since they'd only have to be created once.

Ok, i add it. But it's strange that you have problem with it, and very strange if you can see these WMV in XnView...

Yes, really strange. The only difference between my PC and the other seems to be the version of WMP. Since i use a different media player to playback my videos i still have WMP8 installed while on the other PC there's WMP9 running. So does the thumbnail creating process in XnView rely on WMP9 somehow? That would explain it.
I've only installed the latest WMV codecs from the Microsoft Media website. That's enough to make them run in my media player(s).

I had also some strange problems with WMV (played in video players)...
I could test it too...

One other user has tested, and all is ok.

Just like i expected. I installed WMP10 and it worked. That sucks tbh. I don't want that crappy WMP10 on my PC. Isn't there something you can do about it? Like using older WMP9 libraries? They should be able to playback everything as well.

Well the WMP9 libraries might not be able to decode whatever was encoded by the WMP10 encoder...
Try to uninstall WMP10 (if that's possible) and then reinstall the codecs from the links Ckit has posted on page 1, if needed.

There is no such thing as a WMP10 encoder only WMP10 player.
Both WMP 9 and WMP 10 uses Windows Media Format 9.0 as far as my knowledge goes.

Oh ok... Anyway, installing WMP10 might have fixed the crashes by overwriting some corrupted files or something.

Only WinXP users can install WMP 10 so it's hardly a solution but after hearing what Pierre had to say about performance I'm no longer worried about a thumbnail for WMV files.

It's a solution to Danny since he is a Win XP user and was the only one to experience the bug.
In addition WMV thumbnails now show up, and fast.
