Dear forum
I solved the jpeg lossless menu problem reported above by uninstalling XNView and removing all XNView files from my fixed disk, then reinstalling XNView.
Usually I install over the top of old XNView installations, preserving the ini, etc. This time I wiped it all away and started from scratch and...
Voila!
Problem fixed.

Perhaps I reported too soon (see previous post).
Unfortunately, the (lack of) behavior with the toolbar (both viewer and browser) is back. All jpeg lossless context menus work OK now, but the menu items in the toolbar dropdown do not respond.
When I turned off the jpeg reminder dialog after reinstalling XNView, I tested the various menu items thoroughly and they all worked, hence my previous post.
However, I have closed and reopened XNView several times since then and at some point noticed that the toolbar menus had ceased to work again.
Baffling.
Since the problem is with both toolbars, it makes sense to check to see if there is some conditional code attached to the menu execution. Or perhaps the code is looking toward the registry for something (my config does not use the registry)? Or perhaps the handle(s) to the image(s) passed to the routine is(are) empty or incorrect?
There has to be something different about the code executed by the toolbar versions versus the code executed by the context (or main) menu version of these functions.
Those are all of the suggestions I have to offer...

I have exactly the same problem on all my pcs (at home and at work). If I disable the warning the buttons doesn't work anymore (grrr) and i have tu use the menu (longer).
Yet the shortcuts (maj ctrl l or r) works fine in thumb mode and fullscreen mode but they don't work in "windowed" mode
