Good. It's NOT a JPEG derivative. Now please display this file on screen 100% with your program, make a screenshot of it, and attach it in PNG format.

We'll have to wait what & see what Pierre says, but I'm afraid this proprietary format is too complex.

Suggested workaround: Download + install SnagIt v7.2.5 (compatibility) and send the EL8 labels from Easy-PhotoPrint EX to SnagIt's virtual printer.
  • Tools » SnagIt Printer Capture Settings... » Settings » Output » File » Properties... » Image File

Very good (why ODT around the PNG?).

So this vvv would be the content of the EL8 file?

NO. Got it: :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Pixel data is raw $0003'0000 Byte's, 256 x 256 pixels, 24 bpp, bottom-to-top (pirated from BMP "technology"), starts at $0002'2D94, pixel format is RGB ... ToDo: localize the pixel data in the file.

@ frank837 : do all your EL8 files have same size? If not, upload some more of them.

Unfortunately this seems to be a preview only ... the full content comes from other files referenced from this EL8 file ... so one day XNVIEW will be able to display only this preview, but NOT the nice content.

The solution for your problem: use a fake printer driver saving into PNG.

That's what I wrote: “I'm afraid [i.e. probably] this proprietary format is too complex.”
The topic starter doesn't want to extract embedded (preview) thumbnails. He asked for “a converter el8 to bmp or similar”.

Alternatives to the already mentioned SnagIt Printer Capture:
  • PDFill: Image Writer
“Create Image (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIF, GIF) for free with options for resolution, alpha bits, rotation, flip, output, and registry control.”
  • Code Industry: ImagePrinter Free
“Printing to PDF, JPG, BMP, PNG or TIFF via the virtual image printer”

Why? I did find out the truth :bug:
asked for “a converter el8 to bmp or similar”
Unfortunately this is impossible ... not because "this proprietary format is too complex" ... but because the file does not contain the full pixel data

So XN will either display and "convert" it like this: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 30#p111830 or not at all.

Similar to HTML/Word/CorelDRAW documents, EL8 labels contain links to external full-res images (which keeps the file size down). If the format specs were publicly available, it wouldn't be “impossible” for a decent parser/converter to retrieve this external data.

Theoretically YES, practically NO. Those images are most likely part of the 50 MiB "Canon Easy Photoprint EX" installation, so even with the "decent parser", you couldn't retrieve them if the thing is not installed.

Hello World,
Thanks to everybody, who participated in this thread.
I was silent, because I wasn't on my desk (and so on), but now I am back. Before, as there seems to be no converter for this funny el8-extension, I printetd my dvd physically and scanned it on the scanner, which came with the printer. Resolution 300DPI works ok for me.
Now I produce the image with the sw, which came withe the printer, produce the disk and print/convert the file to png. That's ok.

@XnTriq: Thank you!

Frank
