I think the present situation can be summarised as follows:

o The current location of format settings [only] in Viewer | File > Format settings... is not intuitive and unsatisfactory, it is in effect well-hidden there.

o Adding format settings to the Tools > Options... > Read/Write menu as in XnView Classic is very desirable. :D

o For practical reasons, it would be desirable also to temporarily maintain the current Viewer | File > Format settings... location as well, if that is possible.

o It remains very desirable to add direct access to format settings from File > Save as... , as is normal in other software, as soon as the previously stated limitation in Qt can be overcome... :D

@Pierre: Above summary describes detailed steps to improve things and avoid unwanted loss of metadata. Could you please check and see which improvements you can implemented?

there is some improvements in 0.85 beta 1
