But under the ubuntu 16.04 it doesn't work (actually on Mint 18.3). Error persists.

I don't understand why such an useful feature hasn't been impletmented yet. Perhaps there are difficulties related with XnView code integration, copyright problems etc. Maybe he simply just don't give a damn because he doesn't consider this feature as important as we do, i don't know

Otherwise he would have done it years ago...
