It's unrelated to the capture settings.
It also happens when creating a new image: File > New image...

Anyhow, that's the bug, I have been using the shift key work around but given that most programs default to CTRL + S to save its not intuitive.

Ok, File>Save is greyed when image is not a file, so 'Save as' need to be used. But it was always like that, not since last update...

Not true, broke in 1000 version works in XnViewMP-0997-win version, just checked, I've been using for years & it ALWAYS worked prior to 1000, if you want to deny that fact its fine, I'm tired of talking in circles, just wanted to report the bug so it could be fixed, I can go back to 0997.

To add, CTRL + S actually triggers Save As rather than Save but for my usage it doesn't matter.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in
XnView MP 1.01. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
