Yes
But I thought its a kind of interpretation of the exif orientation when reading the file.
Rebuilding the thumbnails should not be needed.
landscape left is "Horizontal (normal) (1)" (in German)
landscape right is "180° gedreht (3)

I means 'View>rebuild thumbnails' or 'update catalog from file'

I know. But even after rebuilding the thumbnails the thumbnail of landscape-right is shown top-down.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in
XnView MP 1.7.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
