Having discovered this post from my bug report that wasn't one (thanks user0 for the link), I'm glad to see the question of the Filelist Toolbar under discussion.

I think it would be fair to say that everyone uses the Filelist Toolbar in their own way.

The current bar has some elements that are there by default, and other that the user can add.

Would it be possible to:

(1) make all the tools user-definable, and

(2) make the single, original toolbar able to expand in height to accommodate two (or three or four...) lines of tools (remaining thus entirely above the file window)?
This second point is, I think, what Scargoth is suggesting as well.

(3) If it's impossible to make the single, original bar grow, would it be possible to make the second bar optional?

In any case, I think the best path would be to make the Filelist Toolbar completely user-definable.

EDIT: Note that I've relaunched this conversation in the Suggestions sub-forum.

Windows11 (24H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Browser - filelist
there are few inconveniences with filelist toolbar:
- its overloaded with controls
- addressbar is too compressed
- quick filter should be the at most right place
wrote:"- its overloaded with controls"
Not for me, they are all useful and I use them a lot.
wrote:"- addressbar is too compressed"
The address bar is not compressed for me. I'm also running Windows at 4k with 150% scaling.

See here viewtopic.php?p=202357#p202357

I actually complained about this issue before. The funny thing is now it is even worse!

Why? The location should be optional and movable based on users' preference.

If you are going to make big user interface changes, at least make them optional.

Thanks.

Quite right -- none of the listed inconveniences are inconveniences. The address bar is not compressed until the window is like 640x480, the toolbar wraps around to double-height if the window size is too small. Try it! This is all expected behavior from modern toolbars, and it has worked very well in Windows applications for decades. There is no problem with the original design.

I agree with Ravanelli; having one single toolbar's controls spread to two completely different areas in the interface does not make sense. If user0 wants to split it -- and I will stress here, I have never seen one toolbar's controls split into two locations in my entire life -- that should be the hidden-ini-setting exception, not the default. Or better yet, just remove the change completely so we don't confuse new users with nonstandard settings.

On behalf of everyone, please revert this change. (And thanks as always for your excellent application.)
