Here is what I get:

As you can see, Tag and EXIF looks like 1 single group when they actually belong to 2 different pictures -> it may be confusing/unclear and it makes selection not that straightforward. What do you think? :?

Yes, in this case without labels or filename, #3 is not good...

What about slightly different color? (but no green or pink please :) )
JohnFredC wrote:Plus, why spell out EXIF and IPTC? What about just "E" and "I" indicators, instead? Much cleaner!
I disagree, EXIF and IPTC is intuitive, E and I is not.

Please keep tag-box separate from info, because it has other meaning. Even in the example with full thumbnails it actually doesnt look bad because user knows that for tagging he must look or move mouse to right side of image.
Please keep full names in info-icons, because it is more informative and easier to fast understand.

I agree with Nightflyer, I do not think that putting info + tag-box together was good, it mixes different information. I vote for separating them again.

Now that there are "ratings", have any opinions changed? I'd like to see an updated example using top-right.
Note: To see ratings: thumbnail cache must be turned on with Alpha3.

:-( So on the left or on the right???? It's difficult to choose

Many softwares (idImager or ACDSee) have icons on top and bottom of thumbnail frame, so let's put user-assigned characteristics (tag box, number rating, colour rating, category assignment indicator(please add it)) in top-left corner and other items (EXIF etc.) in lower-right corner.
This way they are elegantly separated and thumbnail is visually balanced when many info-items are placed.

First I thought:
Tag-box: right
Other symbols: left
Then of course, what if you have small thumbnails and many of these icons? They would collide with the tag-box at right, so maybe better still is to keep it as it is now (a3), but the tag-box should look different, separating itself from the others by looking different.

Or maybe someone has a better suggestion?

xnview, let's use the same icon as for Categories tab (maybe smaller can be needed).

So for location maybe like Rating/Label/Category in top-left, tag-box in top-right, EXIF/etc in bottom-right?

Ok, but this check for categories will slow down a little...

The slowdown will be even more than with categories/labels?
Is it possible to add some information to database to speed-up?
This icon informs if category is already assigned to an image.

I support this.
We are used to see important things at the top (cf: top-down reading, title...) and footnotes/info at the bottom.
This solution will also avoid the confusion seen here (as they won't be on a same line) and should reduce problems for small Thumbnails with lots of icons.

This might be a good solution. Perhaps a draft showing this would be good. (Currently I have little time, perhaps I'll draw one in the next couple of days.)
