(In 1.80 Alpha there is no separator).
In 1.82, there is a separator but not in File save/load, i have a problem to add it.

Hmm, that's not so good. Perhaps a simple line of "----------------"? Won't look that nice, but still better than what we currently have. I hope you can find a solution.

My problem is that user can select "-----" line in these dialog.
For exmple in convert dialog, there is no problem.

JP2 should be included in the "most common" extensions. It's fairly common now, and will continue to grow in popularity.
PCX and TGA are both debateable. Both were pretty common in the past, both are somewhat common now (TGA is used mainly in games and emulators), but both are old formats that have been surpassed by better ones.

Hmm, not so sure about this one. I haven't got any JPG2000 files on my box, for example.

I think PCX and TGA are popular in some areas, but are not "mainstream" formats.

I think it won't harm too much if the user selects the separator "----------------". But not seeing which are the most common formats harms a lot. So I think we should add this dummy entry, even if it is not optimal.
If the user happens to select the dummy item and confirms the dialog, XnView could simply reopen the same dialog.

I wonder whether the formats listed as common formats should/could be listed twice: On top as common format and in alphabetical order of all formats. (Not sure whether this is technically feasible).

I don't like it, it would be confusing.
I like this one:

If the user happens to select the dummy item and confirms the dialog, XnView could simply reopen the sane dialog.
Or just simple option with checkbox to switch between most common/all filetypes.
Another idea (very intuitive but probably impossible):
Add small images/icons for most common filetypes:
[blue icon ] BMP
[green icon ] GIF
[yellow icon] JPG

I would prefer to see them twice: On top AND in the alphabetical order... because people may look for them here too
(ie: forget that they are at the top, especially if they set a lof of filetypes there, or for convenience once they are browsing the list).

That's exaxtly what I think and why I've suggested it.

OK, misunderstanding, I agree.

Hum, i disagree with that, very confusing.

Why confusing? You have the list of most common formats, a separator, and then the alphabetical list of all formats. Easy.
It's more confusing if you have an incomplete alphabetical list with some of the formats are missing and listed at top.

I hope that a separator will be added (see above).
- Limited number of "common" file types
If many file types (> 20) are marked as "common" file type, the list will become very long, since the file types are listed on top and at the bottom, again. So I think there should be a maximum setting of let's say 20 file types.

There is another topic about some improvements/bugs...
