Hmm, that's not so good. Perhaps a simple line of "----------------"? Won't look that nice, but still better than what we currently have. For exmple in convert dialog, there is no problem.
I don't like it, it would be confusing.I wonder whether the formats listed as common formats should/could be listed twice: On top as common format and in alphabetical order of all formats. (Not sure whether this is technically feasible).

If the user happens to select the dummy item and confirms the dialog, XnView could simply reopen the sane dialog.
