No, when you are in browser, you have fullscreen without EDIT mode. In edit mode you have fullscreen of EDIT mode. So it's not really a lite fullscreen like Dreamer said.
Will this be ultimately be compatible with the new TABs function? They seem to contradict each other. In RC3 anyway, it looks like 2 programs in 1.

2 programs in 1??? I don't understand. you have EDIT fullscreen, and VIEW fullscreen.

It thought it looked like an entirely new mode "[x] Xnview Lite" because of the differences in RC3 file navigation, 'scan headers' requirement, and not using TABs at same time.

What about users who start Xnview by selecting associated jpg from viewer and then going to browser by pressing <Enter>? They are not starting a VIEW Fullscreen. Right? If they press <Enter> again, they would expect to go back to "EDIT Fullscreen".

Again, i don't see the difference. Viewer is viewer - fullscreen or not. It only turns into the editor if you actually edit something. At least that's how i see it.

At the moment I don't have the time to thorougly follow this discussion. So I just can repeat myself: Please do not add additional modes due to technical reasons. Edit mode? View mode? Weird. This will make things overcomplicated. The concept of XnView 1.74 is good and should not be changed, unless there is really very good reason to do so.

Helmut,
I think Pierre calls Viewer - EDIT mode, so there will be no additional mode.

These options don't work good in RC4:
Use LMB double click to switch between:
- Viewer and Fullscreen Standard / Browser and Fullscreen Lite
- Viewer and Browser
- Browser, Viewer and Fullscreen Standard
Use MMB click to switch between:
- Viewer and Browser
- Viewer and Fullscreen Standard / Browser and Fullscreen Lite
- Browser, Viewer and Fullscreen Standard
Use Enter to switch between:
- Viewer and Browser
- Viewer and Fullscreen Standard / Browser and Fullscreen Lite
- Browser, Viewer and Fullscreen Standard
Also MMB click on thumbnail and on Preview in the browser is not the same.
(Viewer = Edit mode)

Set e.g. Enter to this option:
- you are in Browser
- press Enter
- you are in Viewer (OK)
- press Enter
- you are in Fullscreen (OK)
- press Enter
= you are in Viewer
instead of Browser
And what about this
"Also MMB click on thumbnail and on Preview in the browser is not the same." ?

I misunderstood??
"= you are in Viewer instead of Browser"
This is the problem you should be in Browser, not in Viewer...
Option says - "...switch between Browser, Edit mode and Fullscreen" and if you switch once to go to Edit mode, you can switch between Edit mode and Fullscreen only then...
Also you can't go to Browser if you are in Viewer with e.g. Enter, so option "...switch between Browser, Edit mode and Fullscreen" is not right.

No, it's not this problem. I'll fix the "you are in Viewer
instead of Browser".
You say:
Browser => Viewer => Fullscreen
After my test, i have:
Browser => Fullscreen => Viewer
You have not the order as me, normal??

No I have "Browser => Viewer => Fullscreen" - strange...
And other users??
Minor - I suggest to have different options for dbl click and MMB by default.
