Original file got deleted when converting!

After conversion the original file was deleted, i.e. converted file got the name of original one, although the option "delete original" was cleared. I lost one original file this way, now have to copy them before conversion. This never happened before, but now my comp was changed and it is Win 2000 and I had to install the last version of XnView. Could you tell, please, what's wrong and if re-installation could help? Thank you!

I've just tried myself using the default settings of XnView. When converting multiple images XnView replaces i.e. overwrites the original file, if the output folder is the same as the input folder.
To avoid this, in the dialog "Multiple file convert" you have to change the setting "Overwrite:" from "Replace" to "Ask". Then XnView will show a message box before overwriting an existing file when converting.
Loosing original files is never funny, so I strongly vote for making "Ask" the default setting.

Thank you very much! I'm stupid, sorry for bothering.
It seems that I was lucky that in previous version after installation "rename" was the default option.

Thank you for raising this. Pierre will change the default setting to "Ask", especially novice users will appreciate this.
