When I open a folder with a couple of images some of them are in portrait mode others are in landscape mode.

However in XnViews thumbnail view ALL images are displayed
in landscape. Ok, when I double click on a portrait thumbnail this images opens in full size and is displayed correctly as portrait.

However in thumbnail view they are somehow auto-rotated to landscape.

Is there a way to show portrait images as portrait thumbnails in the thumbanils view as well?

If you experience a difference of orientation between View and Thumbnails, this is due to the use of small embedded thumbnails in the file itself to create XnView's Thumbnails very quickly.
=> Uncheck Option: Browser>Thumbnail>'Use embedded thumbnail'.
