How do I turn off the preview of MP3 and movie files? I just want to preview photos in JPG, BMP, GIF, etc. I have unchecked the options, view, file list, but still the preview window will load the player and preview sound and video files.
Is it possible to preiew ONLY photo files but not video and sound files?

You can choose files to be displayed in the Options panel: Browser>Items displayed.
Just check 'images' and uncheck everything else.

Questions regarding including and excluding files are posed quite often - perhaps time to write an FAQ. And I guess with the
options revolution in XnView 1.90 this will be clearer and easier, too.
