Coordinates and colour info

The newest Alpha shows the coordinates in the info line.
Would it be possible to place the COLOUR info also there ?
For truecolour images the RGB value (HEX occupies only 6 characters),
for palettized images the palette index.
The flag glueing on the cursor (cursor did not find the way into the
screenshot) can be kept optional or removed.

(Original discussion in french with suggestions)
I would also - slightly - prefer the colour information in the status bar rather than in a tooltip. However, the issue is that the status bar is already quite long and crowded.
More suggestions or opinions on this?

None?

OK... so here is my opinion: there is plenty of space in the status bar even on a 800x600 window, but the layout of information should be improved by using spacing to separate logical groups of data.
Suggestion:
- File info on the left: rank/total | Filename | Filesize
- Image info on the center: image size & bitdepth + ratio | Zoom | Coordinates + Colour RGB & HTML | Selection (size +corner)
- Comment/Description on the right
I think it would still be quite clear and probably more convenient.
'Display Colour Information' could then be removed from Menu.

Hello !
…I think it would still be quite clear and probably more convenient.
'Display Colour Information' could then be removed from Menu.
• Sorry, but I disagree totally. Colours values and coordinates in the status bar only don't the trick for me, I prefer the current info-text.
- I have it enabled, always, because I have to note a lot of coordinates on very blown-up images, and so I can read this info “on the spot”, without moving my look from the image.
• It has been
OFF by default for ever, and I wish it be kept in the menu - though I'm rather in favour of a reducing of the menu-items globally -, but please, not this one.

Hi Claude,

I see your point: I tried it and I agree that people who want to verify constantly Coordinates/Colour really need the info near cursor
(I knew it would be more difficult to remove other menu-items...
).
It may not be used by the majority, but it seems necessary for some -> this feature shouldn't be removed.
Maybe you could give a try to
Pixie, a 62kB freeware that shows Coordinates and Colour values. It won't replace Zoom & XnView tooltip, but you may find some use. If you happen to find a better solution for your own needs, please keep us updated in this thread.

Idea:
Place info about the file into the bar as done, but remove it as soon as
an edit on the file occurs. In this case, such "info" is NOT useful, even more
it is confusing. In shot above, the file size (red arrow) still refers to the
original JPG image BEFORE I converted it to binary. Filename and count
(yellow arrows) became obsolete either. The obsolete info should be replaced
by something like "unsaved" and come back after saving. This would
reduce the "crowd" problem and provide more space for the colour info.
BTW: What is the new (violet arrow) number ?

It's the ratio of the image.
I am not that sure about your idea to remove file info after first edit action:
- I prefer to always find the same info at the same place for fast memory acquisition (+less confusing)
- If you work on several versions at the same time, it is best to know exactly the original file.
(this being said: filename is already indicated in Title bar and tabs)

I'd be more interested in having the ability to copy the HTML code to the clipboard for use in other apps.

Same for me, but also I understand that status bar shall show it's modified. Suggestion:
* bill.jpg as * is very often used to show that a loaded file was modified but buffer is still unsaved (eg most text editors, and in XnView title bar and tab name). File number and image size may get * as prefix (my preference), may be striked through or grayed out (both not consistent with other indicators used in XnView, i.e. tab & window title).

About information shown in the status bar, I would prefer:
Code: Select all
Rank/Total | Filename | Filesize | Image properties : Ratio | Zoom | Mouse position X: Y: | Selection size X x Y : Ratio (top-left corner position X Y)
(changes: always show Mouse position; separate Selection with all info (when there is a selection)

Implemented in Beta 6... but once you move a selection "X: Y:" shows top-left corner instead of usual Mouse position (and there's nothing to hint you about that change...

).
Pierre, I suppose you don't want to add to long info...

...but just adding another x y position should be OK, IMO
(and you can remove a "," between the "X:" and "Y:"...
).
