Options>Thumbnail>'Use embedded thumbnail' doesn't work.
(check real image vs thumbnail displayed in 'Edit IPTC data')

Strange... I unchecked that option!

Edit: I managed to get embedded thumbnails with smaller XnView thumbnails => 'Use original picture if smaller than thumbnail size' is always used even when unchecked!

Works as expected with Beta2 ('Use Embedded...' & 'Use original Picture if smaller...' with corresponding sizes).

-> 'Closed'

I'm not so sure. I chopped image which has embedded thumbnail to 39 x 39. The embedded (larger) thumbnail appears in list. So, I'm not sure the "[x]Use smaller" option is working.

"Use original picture if smaller than thumbnail size" should be understood as "Use original picture if embedded thumbnail is smaller than XnView's thumbnail" (cf context).
The idea is to use an image large enough to fill XnView's thumbnails, while using embedded ones when possible for speed.

Therefore, I think it's good.
(the situation you found is really unusual. Well, XnView could compare embedded vs Original to choose the larger one before applying this option... but that looks to me as a minor point in a very unusual situation... :| )
