Does not (always?) read archives with folders.

Which rules out 80% of them, sadly. (Even though I know it's a dumb idea, I still see a lot of image archives rar'd up with heavy-duty settings.)

Hello !
• Odd, because I can
not confirm, I just tested with
solid RAR archives
(WINRAR 3.5 free registered version) it works quite nice.
• The only small snag is that it doesn't display the “
²” character correctly in the packed folders names…
- Maybe is it an issue of versions? Or encrypted archives ?
• I use also SQX a lot - as a Total Commander free plugin - and it works fine too in that ß1 with solid archives. BTW, SQX is as so good as RAR, IMHO and free as a plugin…

Kind regards,
Claude

Oops, I tested on the wrong file, so it broke. It's not solid after all, it seems to be files inside folders. Winrar 3.60 (which is multithreaded, no idea if that hurts or not). Whatever files aren't in folders are shown, but the folders show up as single 0-length text files with the name of the folder, that open up explorer to some temp folder with nothing in it. Sorry for the bad report earlier!
If you get folders showing up in yours, that's odd, because they don't show up in mine at all.
A sample

Hello !
• I use my WinRar through Total Commander and it's configured to produce solid archives.
• You can get such an archive I used to test
HERE - 220 kiB.
- It contains a lot of directories and sub-directories that you can see in the browser as thumb nails…
- All files are *.ICO¦24²¦24 BPP.
Glad to hear that occurs at your's with that sample

With the same file you gave me, double-clicking on it in xnview opens to a blank pane with a single file named 24ý that can't be opened. (I suppose that means 24² in your code page, I'm in us-english locale.) Hrm.
Quite strange, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working here, even something as simple as
this test, with a single image in a single ascii-only folder, shows the described behavior. It opens some empty folder in %temp% when the folder is clicked on. The zip version of the same archive shows nothing at all. Perhaps I should switch to french and try it? Or maybe I'm missing a plugin? (Reinstalled to an empty folder.)
Nice here

Hello !
• I can open your sample quite OK here, I get the folder and the image inside it (BTW : Nice ! I keep it !)
• I checked the version of the UnRar.dll used by XnView in the
AddOn sub-dir., it's 3.60, so it matches with your RAR, I guess…
- I've too the "²" character wrongly displayed with my archive, but this doesn't prevent to open it and its whole content.
- But opening the same archive via Total Commander and my WinRar as external packer,
the "²" character is normally displayed.
• Some setting could be inappropriate (unknown lacuna ?) at your's.
- Please, check first if you have
Options >> General >> Use all formats available ticked or not.
(this is the original wording, I would write rather : “Use all available formats”)
- Whether enable¦disable it does nothing, I guess that you might send your INI to
Pierre
who could have a clue about that strange issue…

Kind regards,
Claude

My results:
"My Backups.rar" - Non-solid state with multiple folders, can show "Documents and Settings" up to 5 times! This is because I use the "-u -as" parameters with rar.exe in a CMD script and the archive is always in sync.
"My Backups.zip" with multiple folders, never been updated has no problems with folders at all.
The "2" issue is just a stupid unicode issue which will be fixed in XnView 2.0.
