The new splitter buttons etc are still missing from layout 7 (counting from the top of the layout submenu).
Complicated---

Hi John !
• I tested it at this moment, it seems that all works…
- But now, the handling is a bit complicated. However, I can display all panels at will, with the former 3 tabs which came back.
- I noticed that as long as a preview is visible when moving the slider to the left side, we have only 2 tabs; when it's really tiny, one can get the preview tab to work in this mode by clicking on the tab-bar @ right.
- Then, the preview tab appears too.
- Not sure I got you alright, though… I've only a 17" CRT, it's a bit too small to test that layout completely with 1024*768…

Just bumping this topic. Layout #7 would be my preferred layout if it worked the way the others do.
All the layouts should have the same features.

RC1: Layout 7 seems to behave as it should. YAY!! This is really exciting for me!

Thank you Pierre!
Observations about Layout 7 (haven't tried the others):
1: The splitters between the tree and the file panel, and between the file panel and the preview, have gotten wider... too wide, IMHO. The splitter between the preview and the EXIF, etc., pane remains narrower and a better size, for me. Not of great importance, though.
2. The splitter between the tree and the file panel does not display the double-arrow mouse cursor.

Unfortunately, after further testing Layout 7 in RC1...
XnView does not restore Browser splitters to their previous locations
after restart.
To reproduce one such example:
- 0. Open Browser
1. Select Layout 7
2. Show Preview
3. Hide the Tree panel
4. Hide the Properties (EXIF, etc.) panel
5. Set File panel to thumbs view
6. Set the File/Preview splitter to exactly fit two or three thumbs horizontally
7. Close XnView
8. Restart XnView
9. Open Browser, if necessary
Splitter will have moved to the left...
evidence for this is that the thumbs will no longer fill the horizontal dimension of the file panel.
There are other combinations of panels that show similar behavior.

This bug has been reported in a separate topic, see
RC1: Thumbnail-Preview Splitter moving on opening XnView.

I sawe that thread after posting.
The problem is not just during opening XnView. Returning from the Viewer causes it too.
Must be a global error in the splitter posiitoning algorithm.

Yes, but it's the same bug
